Frightened in Florida
Hi everyone. I have been following these boards from the beginning. You have all been such blessing to me and to read your stories. Talked to my bs today for follow up after lumpectomy and sn biopsy.tumor was 2.5 cent and 2/3 nodes positive. He says margins good but will need chemo (so scared of) and radiaton. I have to get a pet scan im so afraid this cancer has spread because ive been short of breath lately. I suffered with panic and anxiety for years but had it all under control until this. I have surrendered my care to my lord and savior Jesus Christ and already seen many miracles with finances.(i have no insurance) do you think the shortness of breath means this is in my lungs? Any response would be appreciated! God bless you all

Hi!
Shortness of breath can be caused by many things. In my husband's case, it meant a pulmonary embolism (not that you have that either). Before you leap to any conclusions, just wait and see what the PET scan says. I was not thrilled about getting a PET scan either, but it was reassuring to see that my cancer was localized. I hope and pray that yours is, too.

thank you so much. I don't think i have an embolism because i have had this for a while now thanks for your support

It is quite possible for a PET scan to show areas of concern that have NOTHING to do with mets. Any area that 'lights up' do need to be checked out. An area that 'lights up' does not mean it is a met but an area where for some reason (often unknown) where there is 'inflammation'.No one here is qualified to tell you what is (might be) going on with you - only a Dr who actually sees you (and any tests/scans that were done) can. We do each have our own experiences, which are very diverse.
Be sure to see the rest of your Team ( MO, RO in addition to Surgeon). It is a Team effort to get the best TX plan for you. Surgery is not always the best first TX for all. Surgeons are specialized in surgery, MO/Chemo Drs are specialists with chemo, RO/Rare Drs are specialized with rads. It is a team effort for the best outcome for you - also should be presented to the Board at your facility for input from other Oncologists.
I did have an area along my jaw that 'lit up' and was immediately biopsied - nothing there then or now almost 7 yrs later.

You say you have had "panic and anxiety" issues for a long time - this can cause 'breathing' issues.
If you would fill the in your Profile it would help to get responses from those with similar DXs. There are so many variables within the different types (even within the different types) for TX.

i put some more info in I dont have a copy of pathology report or havent seen an oncologist yet. Pet scan is first bs says. Will they stage me before this ?

Karey, while I cannot tell you what your shortness of breath is due to and there are many reasons among which is panic and anxiety. When I was first dx, I had many 'symptoms' including, but not limited to, shortness of breath, aches and pains, digestive issues etc. I was convinced that it has spread. Since, I had had 2 pet scans, a chest CT, an ultrasound of the neck, and a brain mri, for the various scares that I insisted I had. I just finished chemo 2 months ago, and am finally feeling a little more at ease. My 'symptoms' have all but resolved but the fear is still very real. The only difference is that I am not in full blown panic mode 24/7. Please do not worry too much about chemo, the experience is different for everyone. Learn all you can and this board provides a wealth of information. Make sure you assemble a team of drs that you are comfortable to leave your care in. AND pray ( keep faith). I was scared to death before starting but it was a relatively easy experience for me. Before I know it, I was through. One step, one breath at a time. Take care.

thank you so much for your kind words to me. Im hoping this whole thing has just thing has just "taken my breath away" and thats all it is. I hoped i would be feeling much better since he took the tumor out.still so tired.
