Was unsure whether to join this forum as writing about this makes it seem more real. But this is one of the best resources I'v found so far in terms of both information and support, so I thought I'd speak up.

I'm 24 years old and waiting to hear back from the biopsy I had on Monday. Should get the results on Wednesday. Not really panicking and feeling overall optimistic, but as you all know, this is so scary. I'm confident things will turn out fine (I will live to tell the story, plus I believe people -we all- are amazingly resilient) yet I'm terrified of losing one of my breasts or having to go through chemo. I feel like so much of my life is hanging on those results-- like getting an acceptance or rejection letter from your dream uni, just much worse :P.

Worst part so far was having the specialist look at my ultrasound and mammogram results and tell me "there's a 20% chance of this being nothing". 80% chance of BC? What? I later found out he was actually being optimistic, as BI RADS 5 is usually reserved for a risk of 95%+.

The story is, after having my boyfriend find a lump last November I got immediately checked (ultrasound). I have a family history, no idea about that possibly faulty gene. The doctors told me to get a follow-up exam in 6 months time, got sent for an urgent biopsy, and here I am. Feeling nervous but surprisingly OK given the circumstances :P

I'm wondering what the best-case scenario is. DCIS? LCIS? Could this be nothing at all, or is that impossible with a BI RADS 5 risk?

Thank you ladies for being there, and strength to you all. Hoping for the best. Love from Chile!

Also.... I know I'm jumping way ahead of myself, but do any of you know what the prognosis tends to be for mastectomies in younger women? All I read about BC in younger women is pretty discouraging, and I'm trying to figure out if my age works in my favor in any way.

    Hi 24 and Welcome.

How incredibly scary and unnerving. Since you are in Chile, I personally don't know how things are different there in terms of health care in general or breast cancer specifically

But here is a link where you will find a group of young women like yourself who have been Dx-ed with BC. They are more likely to be able to answer your questions, especially in context of your age.

Hoping that things go well for you. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way!!

AFA best case scenario, if you have the radiologist report, we can better give you an idea of what the radiologist is concerned about and why.

    Hi twentyfour-

Welcome to BCO! We're sorry you find yourself in such a worrying position, but we hope you find this to be a source of support and encouragement while you wait for your results, and beyond if need be.

We hope your results come back benign, and that you can soon put this all behind you! In either case, this community is here for you, and we're sending good thoughts your way! Please keep us posted on what you find out.
