MRI Results - Confused!

Background: excisional biopsy after weirdness found through mammograms and US and biopsies (oh my!) Came back as atypia, family history, not a carrier, so on high risk screening.

Had my first MRI with contrast and a follow up and the recommendation from the radiologist is BI-RADS 3 but they don't want to see me again for another 6 months.

No masses, just foci, one breast is inital rapid, with washout (multiple areas) other is inital rapid, and persistent.

Background is moderate.

The cancer nurse I saw today says it looks fine, but I am wondering if I should look at a second opinion. I know there could be false positives, but is it worth the 6 month wait to be sure.

Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I would just do the six month follow up based on Birads 3 MRI. Birads 3 is almost certainly benign and they just want to watch for stability. My guess is few women would get a Birads rating of less than 3 on an MRI

Thanks. I am waiting to talk to my surgeon and may possibly go for a second opinion. Being the scientist I am, I found several research papers that correlate with my findings and that they should be possibly doing a biopsy, so I would like to know the exact reasons why they are choosing to wait (or possibly follow up with at least a mammogram or US to make sure there isn't any thing there now - wasn't 6 months ago, but you never know!)

I think I am mostly annoyed in that I felt that the ARNP that followed up with me seemed to just dismiss me due to my age. Very cold, very short, and didn't really offer a lot of information, or didn't understand the radiologist report herself.

Was told the radiologist doesn't consult with the patients. That it was the doctors that had to do it (already asked). I am getting all my reports and images mailed to me though!

I guess I am just thinking that maybe BIRADS 3 wasn't the proper designation....but then again, I am not a doctor. It's just my own feelings.
