I'm not new I was on this forum 2 years ago. June 2014 dx with IDC left breast 4mm small Tumar. Had lumpectomy I did 6 weeks of RT it went very well. April 2016 dx with DCIS in right breast stereotactic biopsy. I am really confused on what to do. My surgeon says radiation this has me so anxious I wasn't this way with the first one. It would have been better if I didn't have a choice. So far no nodes have been involved. My surgeon feels comfortable with radiation. My oncologist say it's up to me pleas someone help me

Sorry to hear that you are back, and especially so soon!

I guess your best strategy would be to calculate your recurrence risk with and without radiation (Sloan-Kettering has an on-line tool which can help with that http://nomograms.mskcc.org/breast/DuctalCarcinomaInSituRecurrencePage.aspx ) and decide whether the benefit is worth the risk. The plus side of skipping is that if you get cancer again in that breast, you would still have radiation as an option ... the down side of course is that skipping radiation makes it more likely you will get cancer again. At least you have been through it before so you would know what you are getting into.

Best of luck with your decision.

I haven seen my radiologist he says radiation 6 weeks. My oncologist says it's my choice but she seemed to sway more for double mastectomy. I have had 2 lumpectomies in 2 years I had healing problems with both. The incision was weeping very annoying. My twin sister had cancer 11 years ago she had a double that's why I'm so afraid of i

I have two friends in real life who have had contralateral cancers diagnosed 8 years after the first one. One chose a BMX, one chose a second lumpectomy with radiation and chemo (it was invasive again). I don’t think there are any wrong answers, but be sure you can live with whatever you decide ...
