Biopsy after BI-RADS 5-Waiting

My mom had her diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound 2 weeks ago. She was given a BIRADS 5, so I urged her to have her biopsy done at the big university hospital; thankfully she was able to get in and she just had her lump and lymph node biopsied today. They said results could take 3-5 days; is that average? If the results are malignant, what are the next steps? What happened next for you? Thanks

    Yes, 3-5 days is typical.

The next steps will depend exactly on what is found. "Breast cancer" is an umbrella term for over 20+ different types of cancer that can effect the breast. It will take time for your mother's full picture to come into picture

Here is a link to another part of the forum that can help you get your "ducks in a row" as you and your mother begin this journey

    Get prepared

As you get more and more info, you will find various forums that will match up with what your mother has and what she will go thru. The ladies there will help you with advice and encouragement etc.

I was called the evening of the next day after biopsy. However, after my lumpectomy it did take 5 business days to get the path report.
