Cool pix Scottie, glad to see a lady Globetrotter! It was all about Meadowlark Lemon when I was young.
45 min walk yesterday ahead of some strong storms that rolled through. Looks like MOTS for today.
-
Fun Pictures, Scottie!
I walked, did pilates, and yard work yesterday and a yoga DVD this morning. It is Graduation Day here, so the afternoon & early evening will be devoted to eating macaroni salads/sandwiches/cake etc., chatting and mingling etc. as we are invited to 4 different parties!
-
I have been on vacation on St. John this past week, so I just caught up with everyone's posts. I did a lot of exercise on vacation. Our room was about a 15 minute walk to the restaurants, so we walked twice a day there and back. Plus we also hiked trails and to different beaches and snorkeled every single day. It was amazing and I know I'd be a lot healthier if I could live there full time! (Good excuse, right?) I can hike all day when I reach vistas like this.
-
I am on 12 weeks Taxol. Did 4 treatments so far. #5 coming Tuesday. Before doing chemo I was preparing myself to be in bed so miserably sick. Guess what? I just finished a 5hr hike (climb) Mount Beacon in NY. I am so proud of myself! And today is 90F in NY area! WOOHOO!! My friends think i am crazy. My husband think that this is the way it should be..
-
Woohoo victoryak that is phenomenal, congratulations. TH what a beautiful place I'll bet you had a wonderful vacation. Great pictures Scottie your little guy is very cute.
Yesterday went for a 6 mile beach walk in the morning, had lunch with friends (for you old timers met up with the wonderful Eduardo sigh he is as lovely as ever) came home and had a nap which turned out to be a massive mistake as last night I couldn't sleep and saw 4am finally fell asleep but slept in and missed my morning classes, fortunately I had volunteered to go to a yoga class this afternoon, a girl I know has just spent 200 hours and become a certified instructor and she is doing practice classes so did that then logged on to my on demand at the gym and did an RPM class, then tried to do dance video but it kept buffering so I gave up and came home, now to tackle laundry!!!!
-
ViktoryK, that is amazing. Now get a good night's sleep!
Cheryl, a beach walk - another great way to exercise!
Apparently we had perfect growing conditions for grass while we were gone, providing me with the exercise plan for today - 55 minutes lawn mowing.
-
Viktoryak......congrats. I know how it feels, because I did the short version of the Chilly Hilly when on Taxol. Big question: was the mountain laurel in bloom? I lived south of you for about 20 years and made a point of hiking Turkey Mountain about this time of year hoping to see it.
I just finished a 30 mile bicycle ride but late in the day as was bucketing down earlier. Feel ever so much better, and need to do the same tomorrow. I have Flying Wheels metric century on Saturday. I also succeeded in installing my new seat, learning the fine points of adjusting it, both the right angle/pitch and distance from handlebars. If you screw up either, you will be rewarded with major pain. I think 30 miles is enough distance to know if I did it right
Speaking of cycling, I was at the wine bar last night. I know the whole cast of characters there, including a lovely guy who is quite in awe that I am doing the Seattle-to-Portland. He is also a cyclist and sometimes arrives via bicycle. One time, he was slightly "overserved" so the lady tending bar removed his front wheel so he would be forced to Uber it home!
Now dinner and perhaps a drink on my deck so I can enjoy this lovely evening. - Claire

Viktoryak - you rock girl!!!!
Gorgeous day in Denver, but did not spend enough time outside....Did get a couple walks in, but went to see my mother and ran errands with DD. Then had to go back to Mom's...she called me that she slid (fell?) out of her recliner and could not get up so I had to go help her. On the way there she calls me to see where I am....she lives 3 miles away and I'm sure the 10 minutes felt like forever. Mom was not hurt physically, but emotionally as it is another reminder of how much ability she is loosing. She has a "I fell and can't get up necklace" but not always have it on!!! I don't mind helping but I so worry about her. When I was there, she told me she wanted to move to a nursing home. This evening when she got into bed, she called to tell me she was in bed and I mentioned getting help all day like 9 - 7 and she said she didn't need that much help but agreed that she needs help in the evening. It is so hard to see Mom struggle so much and know that it is only going to get worse as she has a degenerative, terminal neurological disease. Mom was always active and healthy, riding a bike into her mid 70's, going to aerobics, and now she has lost her ability to walk even with a walker. Thanks for listening.
Tomorrow will be an interesting day....DD#2 is going sky diving in the morning. DH and I are going with her to watch!! We will also buy the video.
Have a good Memorial Day. Thanks to all those who served. My father was a proud Korean War Vet, serving in the Canadian Military.
Hugs from Denver

hi all and welcome viktoryak, that is awesome!
Gorgeous pic TH, you sure deserved a vacay and what a great spot for it.
45 min walk yest and also did some weeding while DH mowed the lawn. Wowsers there was a lot of yucky stuff growing around that wheelchair ramp. Today we shop for possibilities to plant in newly uncovered dirt. Pretty morning and will get out for a walk while it's still cool, town is quiet, and DH is asleep.
((Karen)) I feel for you. My mom moved to WI to be with family i.e. me and it's a big responsibility. She did OK until 75 and has been declining since then. That was ten years ago. She's doing well enough to be in independent living yet but I still worry.
-
Welcome ViktoryK,, and great job! If you a crazy, it is a good kind of crazy to be .
Karen, does your mom have one of those electric recliners where you push an button and it lifts you up to a standing position, and sets you back down too? We got one of those for my dad and that helped a lot. It is so hard.....I know because my dad was the biggest go-getter you could imagine. Traveling on his own until his mid-80s, tons and tons of interests etc. and then to see him decline so steeply both physically and mentally, and to basically become his parent, was tough, sad stuff.
A beautiful day here. I plan to walk, do some sort of toning, maybe have a little picnic lunch, then call up and visit with some of my distant relatives. Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all veterans everywhere!

90 minuteU Jam / Zumba mash up this morning.
-
VictoryK. . .that's amazing. Karen, I know how hard it is. My brother takes care of our mother but she may need a nursing home soon.
Back home from mini-break. Got some exercise going to multiple stores to negotiate a deal on a new washer as ours bit the dust. Am now at the gym feeding the Fitbits. Back to work tomorrow.

hi all - I've been AWOL from this thread for a while (again!).
Some days I'm on the exercise wagon and some days I'm off but where there's life there's hope, right?
Today was 30 minute walk\run followed by several hours of garage cleaning and power washing stuff.
DS's wedding less than 2 weeks away now - 2+ year engagement seemed like a long time but all of a sudden the wedding is here!
Love to all my sculpted sisters😘
-
Good to hear from you sweet. Can't believe that the wedding is almost here. You will have to post pictures!!!
-
Here is another reminder about the 2016 Exercise Thread Road Trip to San Antonio October 21-27. Badger's mom has a time share at the Wyndham Resorts which she very generously lets us use; so if you come your lodging will be free (although you have to be flexible about sharing a room etc. depending on how many people show up!). If this sounds interesting to you (even if you are just a 'maybe'), drop me a PM with your 'real' name & email address and we will get an email group going with more details. We don't need a firm commitment until July 1. (At which point we will want to start getting tickets for plays and/or other events that need reservations). Even if you can only come for part of the time, we would love for you to join us!
-
Hi All looks like everyone has had a busy few days. I went to DDs and did painting and landscaping with my husband. It is our graduation present to her for finishing her Masters. Felt like my old self for a day or so😃!
Today did Pilates and hit a wall! So down time the rest of the day.. I appreciate all the encouragement to listen to my body during rads. Halfway done!
-
45 min walk this morning, went to the greenhouse then did some planting. Phew! 3.75 miles for the day.
Walking is great for those who want to ease into an exercise program. Check out this article that was in my Sunday paper by Chicago tribune writer Joseph Hernandez.
We've heard it before: "A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Such a cliché, right? But a single step will start you on the path toward better health..
-
Hello everyone! I have so much to catch up on. Over the weekend I went camping with my son and his Boy Scout Troop. We had a great time. We went on kayaks, stand up paddle boards, and swam. My sleep is a little off due to the air mattress, but I can catch up on that later.
Ruth- Your flowers are beautiful!
Sweet-The garage cleaning should count for double on the exercise scale. I takes a lot to get me motivated to do that.
Scottie-A mini vacation is always good! I need a new washer too, as it is making a lot of noise. I would repair , but it has been repaired before. Where were the best deals? What are your thoughts on front vs top loaders?
-
Just a quick Hello and check in.
Karen: Thinking of you and your mother.
Mowed for 90 minutes today and more than an hour of weeding, trimming, and spraying Round Up. Followed up the day by walking/running at the park.
Happy Memorial Day.
-
I would do a front loader as more efficient. However, a top loader is what came with my new place. In any event, time to upgrade Annie.
I am stuck upgrading a work computer to Windows 10. Slower than molasses in January (not the expression I really wanted to use here).
Dinner is in the oven. Did 35 miles of cycling today which confirmed that I did in fact do the seat adjustment properly.
Busy week ahead. Flying Wheels on Saturday

I run 3.5 miles this morning at 6.30 am before driving in the afternoon for my #5 weekly Taxol. Total time 45 min. Cal. Burned 430.:(
Waiting for my treatment now , they are running late:(
-
Yesterday's exercise was gardening - planting veggies, flowers, hauling bags of potting soil and pots full of potting soil. My co-worker had a great idea to start a landscaping bootcamp. People pay to come to your house and dig up bushes, lay patio pavers, weed. LOL, I thought it was a great idea! This evening it started raining as soon as I got off work. Perhaps today is a rest day.
Welcome back Sweet.
Karen, maybe you could find someone to come in a couple of hours a day to help your mom while you explore the assisted living or what to do next. I know its tough to help out parents and still have kids with needs and then your own needs.
-
Welcome Victoryak. Do what you can but don't overdo. Glad to see you here.
Hi sweet. I know you are excited about the wedding.
All, ditto what ruthbru said about San Antonio. If you can come for a day, weekend, whatever, you won't be disappointed. Such a great group and we laugh so much from the time we hit the hotel until we part to leave for the airport. Join us if you can.
Deep water aerobics, followed by another half hour moving about in the pool. Then later my 5-mile Walk Away the Pounds class. badger, I'm gonna use that cliche as further motivation for my class.
hbcheryl, I think it's about time for you to get certified. You do so many classes I'm sure you can teach several!
Night sculpted friends.
-
Pound and yoga this morning, Barre tonight. I ate like a maniac all weekend so I trying to get a couple pounds back off before they get too comfortable!
-
Ruth, I got my mother a "lift" chair but she tried it a couple times and decided it wasn't comfortable. So it sits in her apt. It is a big chair but she said it was uncomfortable when it stood her up. Thankfully the chair was donated it to us, all we had to do was pick it up.
Two, my mother has an aid 2 -3 hours/day Monday-Saturday. We are thinking of getting help in the evening.
Almost summer vacation...only 2 more days!!! Yeah!!!
-
Got the veggie garden ready for planting
-
Had my # 5 Taxol yesterday. I am a cold capper...so it was a hard long day. If you guys not aware it is worn 1 hr before chemo, during chemo and 4 hr after.... Was very hard last 2 hrs. I removed it at 10.30 pm:( but pulled myself today from bed at 6.30 Am . And did 2.5 run and a bit of fast walk time :35 min . Cal Burned only 250:( but had to cut work out short to drive my son to school.
-
Scottie - great pix of your son and the Globetrotters - good for him to get those autographs. Of course I now have a "Sweet Georgia Brown" earworm! TH - love your picture - it's so Caribbean with the blue water and the distant rain. Karen - I feel for you with your mom - I went through the same thing with my dad many years ago. Like so many others, he did fine well into his 80's, but once he began to decline, he declined quickly. It's hard to watch. Viktoryak - wow, I'm impressed with how much you're doing while still in active treatment! And you're being so smart to also listen to your body and dial back when you need to. Badger - I'm dealing with similar work issues too, so I know what you mean. Our management also talks the talk about appreciating employees and the work-life balance, but then turns right around and doesn't provide adequate resources to get the job done. The work has to get done somehow, so there goes the balance. Grrrrr - I keep waiting to hit that PowerBall!
I'll add another voice to encourage anyone who can to go to San Antonio - if you think the group is fun online, wait till you meet them IRL!
More Garden N Sculpt at the cabin during the long weekend. Here's a little nook garden I've been working on - I think it turned out nicely. The little bridge crosses a swale that carries water after rain, and the little slate walkway beyond the bridge leads to a path we cut through the woods to get to the lower part of the property where we have a picnic table and a swing. We'll see how long those hostas last before the deer eat them!
2.5 miles run along the golf course this morning.
-
Veggie garden is all planted at last
-
Walking, Zumba, Yoga......seriously, I should be skinnier!
