Marijuana prevents breast cancer metastasis?

I am all for medical and recreational marijuana; however I read an article that said marijuana can boost estrogen- not good for estrogen positive peps!
-
I can testify that it has helped my friend deal.ith stage 4 colon cancer and the only time.the cancer has.come back aggressively was when she stopped taking it due to a hospital stay for 7 weeks ( she was scared to take it at the hopsital) her husband makes.her the oil and it's amazing for her pain and boosts her appetite as well. I ended up trying it for the breast pain and it was gone for 4 days but I was out if it for a whole.day😨 ..thank god my.husband was.home. If this turns out to be breast cancer I am 100% using cannabis oil.

Thought y'all might enjoy this little example of rampant hypocrisy centered around medical marijuana: http://countercurrentnews.com/2015/09/anti-marijuana-politician-charged-with-possession-of-marijuana/
At least he's no longer opposing it. Meanwhile, I live in the last possible state that might legalize it eventually--Missouri.
-
Piper, that story is truly priceless. What a tool.
-
Yes Momine, he is a tool, but at least this tool is on our side now and acting like it was his idea all along--which it probably was but he was caving to corporate pressure and now the jig is up.

From the articles that I have read, sounds like of the two constituents within mj that are being looked at to affect disease/health, THC is the one showing potential to be estrogenic while CBD is not. Recommendations for BC that is ER+ are usually in a ratio that is 1:1 or 1:3 THC: CBD. Some folks just take the CBD to protect from the spread, others take both to cover the removal of cells(and supposedly stem cells) as well as the metastases.
blessings....

MMJ is legal in my state, and several reputable physicians and nurses are available for consultations about strains and dosages. Because I'm ER+, I have to be careful to avoid too much THC, but some THC is necessary to give the CBD a boost. Both an MD and an NP have recommended tinctures and oils for me from the ACDC strain, which is about 3:1 CBD to THC. I've been taking it since November, along with Xeloda. Whether Xeloda, MMJ, or a combination is responsible, I don't care. My CA 15.3 numbers improved dramatically on this regimen, and the once extensive liver mets are just about gone. Not bad for almost five years at Stage IV.
I've noticed that the THC causes a slight short-term memory loss, but other than that, I don't see an overall loss in cognition. I do have to watch the over-eating, though. The cannabis alleviated the nausea from Xeloda very well, and gave me a huge appetite as well. For me, even with a high CBD to THC ratio, I do feel slightly stoned if I take a lot of full-extract oil during the day. I have never used MJ recreationally, and I don't like that wasted feeling at all. So, I tend to stick to tinctures during the day so that I can function, and full-extract oil at night.
I would urge anyone with a cancer diagnosis to consider trying MMJ, but onlywith the guidance of a medical professional experienced in prescribing it for cancer patients.
-
I think my MO is wise to approve MMJ apps only for Stage IV or patients on chemo for whom anti-nauseants have failed so miserably that they are in danger of becoming cachectic from their anorexia. Especially for us early-stagers who have ER+ tumors and could stand to lose more than a little weight. It’s questionable for “anyone with a cancer diagnosis” even broach the subject with their MOs, much less “try it.”
-
I don't find it "questionable" at all for "anyone with a cancer diagnosis" to research whether or not medical cannabis could complement his or her treatment and to then consider "trying it" under medical supervision. Obviously, this is an individual choice--a choice I made after considerable research and with my MO's blessing. It has been a valuable addition to my treatment regimen, and I'm happy to share with this board what I have learned and experienced

The NIH has confirmed the Cannabidiods reduce Breast Cancer tumors. The federal government acknowledges it now. So there is no 'iffy' on pot. The question is simply what type of cancer is it most effective on and THC is estrogen positive, so it's best for ER+ ladies to avoid the traditional pot. I personally use CBD oil, but because it is a CYP2D6 inhibitor, I will have to stop taking it with my Tamoxifen, since Tamox uses that pathway to absorb. If I'm a fast metabolizer of that enzyme, I'll probably continue with the CBD oil as it alone, does help prevent mets.
That stated, CBD is amazing for health and has no psychological effects at all. It's legal in all 50 states. I order from a company that is very small and local and very transparent. You have to be careful ordering cbd oil online as some of them seen to be resellers of foreign hemp and it's the stalks and crappy product they blend into the oil. If you buy I'd highly suggest you get the actual Charlotte's Web variety, which only one colorado company is legally allowed to sell since they trademarked the genetic plant or use 4 corners - which is slightly more expensive, but their quality is the best I found.
Chi-Sandy, don't dismiss Pot.. It truly has amazing properties. But people need to educate themselves and make sure they get the genetic type they need for their bodies. -
I'm so happy to have found this thread. I'm stage four with bone mets pretty much everywhere. I have been messing around with MJ for a year now. It's so hard to get good information I'm Er positive in a big way and I was told I should be at a 4:1 ration CBD to THC . Wrong ? I need the THC to help with anxiety so would be sad to let it go but if it makes my cancer grow I would.
Thanks

Wendy~
Do you have practitioners there that use medical MJ? I worked through a Dr. in California, she suggested 3:1 for me due to by stage 2a diagnosis, so it follows that a stage 4 regimen may differ. I also know a few folks here in town that include Cannabis oil in their treatment, so I have bounced info with them.
Just jealous that I don't live in a legal state, but love my mountains!!
-
KayB,
Agreed about human trials. And I didn't say human anywhere.. I'm just saying the latest study published by the NIH shows that CBD does indeed reduce breast cancer cells - I believe it was outside of humans and rats, but in the lab only... The article was linked above.
-
Good morning ladies,
I have been using medical marajuana for a year now for my stage four breast cancer. I take a ratio of 4:1 CBD:THC because this is what I have read is the right amount for hormone positive breast cancer. There is a ton of speculation and stories out there of success. I have my next ct scan on Tuesday I will let you know if there was progression or not.
Wendy
-
Wendy, best wishes on your scan. Regarding THC for ER+, my cannabis doctor mentioned the entourage effect. I think that means that the THC helps to activate the CBD, as well as causing apoptosis--cancer cell death--on its own. I was told that even an ER+ patient needs SOME THC along with the CBD, but that too much THC could raise estrogen levels. That's why I think that it's essential to consult with and be followed by a medical professIonal who specializes in MMJ to find the right treatment (strain, dose, delivery method) for one's particular diagnosis. Based on my consults, it's my understanding that 3:1 or 4:1 CBD:THC tend to be safe and effective ratios for ER+ BC. But so much more research is necessary, and rescheduling marijuana would make that possible.

I never said I was against weed: I live in a MMJ state and support its legalization for recreational use as well. (I probably wouldn’t smoke it because the last time I did, I developed asthma which has remained with me ever since, so I’m no fan of inhaling anything that happens to be burning). But those of us with early-stage ER+ cancers--especially if not suffering nausea, loss of appetite or intractable pain--need to be very careful, given its possible estrogenic effects. For us, even discussing it with our doctors is premature. IMHO, it isn’t wise to, in effect, self-participate in what amounts to an uncontrolled and unorganized clinical trial. Back in the day, I was all for “experimenting” with it for pleasure (still am for those whose lungs can take it). But DIY “experimenting” with it unsupervised out of speculation that it might cause cancer-cell death is like playing Russian roulette. I’ll wait for the hard science, in the form of prospective double-blind studies.
-
Sandy, I would never be able to smoke Pot either, or inhale vapes... I use a tincture of CBD only, because it is not estrogenic...but I'm stopping currently as it uses the same protein pathways as my Tamoxifen and I don't want any competition. I'm sure the THC does help activate the CBD as some have said, but like Sandy said I just can risk helping those ER+ bugs at all...
I basically have to decide how many chemicals / herbs I want competing for the CYP2D6 pathway and if its a choice between Tamox and Tumeric, or Tamox and CBD, I'd probably go with the Tumeric...
But I am a firm believer that if they would just do clinical trials and studies with pot and people, they may find it is very beneficial... The dosage is what I'm nervous about.. I read that the amount of CBD required to stop cancer cells was pretty huge... that is some expensive stuff... -
Has anyone tried to look for actual evidence that THC is estrogenic? I have and I am not convinced at all. Marijuana as a whole and THC have both showed antiestrogenic activity in studies. I'll post one of them but there are others. MJ might have some effect on hormones but it might not be negative in terms of ER+ breast cancer. Of course this is one of many unprovens.
The reason most people give for believing THC is like an estrogen is because it can cause gynecomastia (man boobs) in men. But the gynecomastia may be due to the lowered testosterone, not increased estrogen. The ratio gets skewed and causes an imbalance that allows the estrogen to have too much influence. Here is a good article:
http://www.medicaldaily.com/man-boobs-and-marijuana-thc-proven-cause-moobs-264488
I think this is just one of those ideas that spread via the internet due to repetition, and may turn out to not be true at all. I don't imbibe regularly anymore because of the uncertainty but I do engage in some occasional relaxation without concern.
-
just smell what is called skunk-weed to realize it's strongly estrogenic. skunk weed is the mature flowering buds of cannabis indica. with the ne w very strong varieties a hit of the stuff will knock u out lowereing y our blood pressure a great deal if you're not used to it. true 15 years or so anyway when I was tapering down
-
Don't smoke it and there is no risk of lung cancer. CBD comes in tictures, and edible forms, which are much healthier than smoking. There have been tons of studies on different parts of the marijuana plant and cancer treatment...
-
I'm lucky enough to live in Oregon. So I can access different levels of CBD/THC MJ. A 3:1 ratio is best for me. I Vape to avoid the worst effects of smoking. I buy vials of concentrated oils that have undergone testing so I know what I'm getting.
I'll admit, my first trip into a dispensary was strange. Never did I think I'd be buying MJ legally in my lifetime. The "bud tenders" are very informed, however I go to a dispensary specializing in medical patients.
From what I've read, CBDs + THC can slow down or stop cancer. With Lobular breast cancer, I know standard Taxol treatment has a poor record of success. I've already made a personal choice of quality vs quantity with my life, so my choices won't be everyone's.
CBDs have really helped with pain, and I get more done when using them. Femara makes me feel like I'm 90, and MJ helps. I do get a buzz, but not "high" like when I used in college many moons ago.
-
I live in AZ where mmj is legal. My onc gave me a script right away no problems. I vape and smoke but I've smoked it for years. The science of ratios is something i haven't spent much time on, I hate to think it will make the C worse. I am going to buy about a half oz and try to make Rick Simpson oil, I figure it can't hurt and doc says it's ok by him. I've never tried an edible. I am Trying to get a job at a local casino so I've stopped smoking for the past several weeks. But I found out they do a hair strand drug test. I'm bald! So if they call with an offer I'm hoping they will do a urine test instead. I have not had a chance to research pot smoke being bad for your lungs but probably any smoke is. I had a guy at the dispensary tell me to use a glass pipe instead of a metal one so I bought one, had it in my pocket at a gas station, sent to pull my keys out and the pipe fell out and broke on the floor. Lol. Hugs.

Mspanos~ I have not heard that Marijiana is linked to estrogen.
Has anyone heard that it interferes with Tamoxifen??

Good morning ladies this is a post I copied from a thread I follow on Facebook. This is only one story.
It's taken me awhile to post my story but here it is. I was diagnosed on June 29th 2010 with stage 2 triple negative . At that time I lived in Florida so I went through a double mastectomy and chemo. On december 1st 2011 I was diagnosed with a metastasis to both lungs. At that time I only did chemo. In October of 2012 we moved to Colorado to be closer to family and learned of legal cannabis here. I started immediately on a high CBD tincture and was taken off from chemo 3 months later. On March 21st 2014 I was diagnosed with a brain Mets and immediately was told I had to have a craniotomy because the tumor was to large, it out grew the blood supply. On March 29th I had the craniotomy followed by 3 cyber knife treatments. And at this point is when I started taking a high THC oil. And as they monitored me every 8 weeks with brain MRIS in April of 2015 they said the spot had grown enough and was growing towards the ventricle in my brain that they needed to do surgery again. So may 23rd of 2015 I had a 2nd craniotomy and when they opened my head they did pathology and came back negative . My surgeon told my husband it didn't even look like a tumor at all it was tumor necrosis with a few circulating cancer cells buried within. I did 3 more cyber knife treatments and then the end of last year I did 40 hyperbaric treatments. Almost 3 weeks ago I had my most recent MRI and happy to report that I am stable since September of last year. The only thing I have changed besides upping my THC dosage is that I have incorporated using essential oils as well. Which a lot of them have some of the same terpene profiles as cannabis😊 I hope my story inspires just one of you that there is hope and to not give up❤
-
Wendy that is good news for that lady. I read on an article about testing high THC MMJ with rats that 1/3 of them have complete remission, 1/3 have partial remission and I didn't catch what happens to the other third. My understanding is that if the tumor doesn't grow, you don't die.
The saddest story I heard about MMJ was this past weekend. A man told me his wife had a large tumor in her armpit and had it surgically removed. They figured they got it all but just to be sure they did radiation. The radiation killed the bones in her ribs and just laughing or coughing too hard breaks her ribs and they don't heal so she is in a great deal of pain at 55. Her pain doc has her on a morphine drip and the couple asked about MMJ and the doc got ferocious and told her that if she even tries it he will drop her as a patient and blackball her. They live in OK and can't move so there they stay. I thought that was awful.
-
Piper that's terrible poor woman. I know a lot of folks who are having a difficult time. My question is at what point do you open your mind and try something new. Even if you have inner issues with using pot there is just way too much anecdotal info out there to ignore.
-
Agghhh, I'd to whack that pain doctor over the head, Pipers! To be so adamant about MMJ! And I can think of three non-toxic things patients should be taking (or eating) while they are getting radiation therapy: turmeric (curcumin), melatonin, and dried plums. Things that protect normal tissues and bone health from radiation damage, while actually radiosensitizing breast cancer cells!! But God forbid we interfere with standard treatment in any way, shape or form....
-
Yes that story made me furious but the thing that gets to me the worst is to think of never being able to laugh for fear of breaking a rib. What hell that would be. And you'd sure have to be careful to not catch a cold but not being able to laugh would deprive me of my joy in living.
-
Pipers, I agree, life without laughter is a very sad thought....
-
I just got a prescription for medical MJ and will be filling it ASAP.
I have smoked and vapid it for years
When diagnosed last year with throat cancer I started eating pudding that I put the oil in tasted like crap but I stuck with it until I was hospitalized as was not legal here then. I made my own oil Rick Simpson method.
I was told by MO at the beginning that he gave the Chemo and rads a 40 0/0 Chance of getting it all. After treatment cancer was gone. Because I followed conventional treatment I cannot say the MJ took care of it or not.
I have applied here for a growers licence to grow and make my own . I did make some canna butter last night and wI'll make some cookies tonight much cheaper than buying the edibles.
It certainly takes care of a lot of SE and if it slows down or kills my BC then great
Would be very interested in how much people are using each day and any dosage info you may have
Thanks
