    Hello. :)

I chose a mastectomy because I did not want radiation at all (even if I was node positive), and that was the best option for someone with my mindset.

I did have a nipple sparing mastectomy. In general, lymph node negative women whom have a mastectomy are not referred for RADS.

    :)

Hi, radiation may be recommended after mastectomy. Did your doc explain why they recommend it in your case? Were the margins close? Was the tumor very close to the chest wall or nipple or skin? You may want to go for a second opinion if you are not satisfied with the answers.
    Good luck!

The only reason I am having radiation is because of the kind of mastectomy had , nipple sparin

The only reason they gave me is that ifor that kind of mastectomy they still do radiation. For my peace of mind I don't mind doing it

they are going to attempt nipple sparing for my surgery later this month, however radiation is not part of my treatment plan. The only reason nipple sparing will not happen, is if the margins are too close for them not to be lost.

Konakona, I would go for a second opinion. I had radiation because of lymph nodes and other factors, not because it was a nipple sparing surgery. I would get a second opinion even if it were just for the peace of mind.

After reading about all the side effects from RADS I wish I would have done a complete mastectomy.

I wonder if is still posible to do it

I had a single mastectomy because at that time the surgeon said no rads. Pathology showed it was next to the chest wall. My oncologist said rads weren't necessary. A year later I have a lump on my mastectomy side, it's not cancer, but they can't rule out a recurrence. Currently were discussing radiation.

I am having NSM in December, it is same as bmx, no rads to breast, but to lymph nodes, if affected
