Core workout this morning. There's sunshine again today - woohoo!!!
-
Thanks for the reminder, Mary! I've been in an indoor cafe, indoor shops, an indoor gym and doing laundry indoors. Now I see kids running around naked outside when I was just in my winter coat yesterday! Crazy weather!
-
The day is here and I am so stoked!!! I get to meet Dr. Annick Desjardins, the Duke doctor who is using the re-engineered polio virus to treat brain cancer patients. I meet her later today as we will be filming at our Patient Services Support & Call Center. She is the keynote for tomorrow's "Brains Matter" luncheon. I have been working my tail off helping the EndBrainCancer Initiative get ready for this event.

In other news, here is a picture of Snoqualmie Falls from last Sunday's group ride. - Claire
-
Laundry is almost in off the line. It's drying so nicely in our 80 degree weather. Taking a small break and then on to more housework
-
Pretty picture, Claire!
We dodged showers for our Wednesday walk this morning. Probably no flower planting today as it is now raining/raining. Zumba tonight and Book Club, so there will be more calories in than out. I just got a fitbit Alta a couple weeks ago. I like it because it is slender and nicer looking, but I don't like it because it doesn't have a stopwatch.....so I am still wearing my old duct-taped Charge half the time. I'm thinking of getting another Charge and alternating between it and the Alta, because I really do like that missing feature.
-
Nice pics ruthbru and claire!
Walked to mysunshine's house to do kitty duty this morning. That alone was 9900 steps so I've been on the couch since then. Not sure but believe we've been in high 80's/low 90's this week so midday outside is not an option for us elders unless it's on the way to the pool!
Later sculpted friends.
-
Might take a walk in a bit with hubby
-
What a day! Non-stop meetings, ate my lunch at 3, left work later than usual but in time to get stopped by a freight train coming through Madison at rush hour, then there was a traffic jam on the Beltline caused by a crash yadda yadda yadda. Luckily was able to exit in time to avoid the 30-min delay and Lois (my GPS device) found me a way home along a pretty country road. Brought work home but got in a quick walk before settling in for the night. Getting to the time of year when I'd rather walk in the cool morning than the hot & humid afternoon.
-
Badger I feel you, I had one of those days too. Beautiful pictures Claire & Ruth.
Here is my gardenia bush in full bloom, everywhere I go I take people flowers and still the darned thing keeps blooming....
Late home from work tonight so went to a very late U Jam class.
-
90 minute yin yoga class last night.
-
Going to haul down the rest of my summer clothes and begin the switch over since it's no longer cold at night or during the day
-
Weary from Rads this week. Did 21 day fix lower body today
-
Didn't get my seasonal clothes changed out. Got too busy with my flower boxes and adding more soil to my flower bed. Going to work on veggie garden tomorrow
-
POUND this morning and played with flowers the rest of the day (the cats supervised).
-
Ruth: the cats did a great job supervising as your flowers are gorgeous!
Badger: So glad you have Lois. What a day you had yesterday!
M0mmy: I switched my clothes out this past weekend.
PlanB: Tomorrow is Friday and you will get a break for rads. Sounds like you need the break. Wishing you a restful weekend.
Claire: Beautiful picture.
Hi All! Walked/ran Tuesday, Wednesday, and today. We are in the process of replacing our furnace (the old one was 48 years old) and our air conditioner (the old one was 25 years old). The men were here yesterday and today. Seems like there's always a snag when renovating/updating/replacing (I know Ruth and her bathroom can relate) so they aren't finished yet with the furnace. They completed the AC and the house is nice and comfortable now. We have been lucky by having cool weather (with the exception of a few days) so we haven't really needed the AC until today and it was just in time for the warmer weather!
-
Ruth, your backyard is just beautiful!!
Took a great walk today!! I do love that we live on the third floor, up and down stairs frequently every day!!
Wonderland, Glad your air conditioner renovationsare done, just in time for the warmer weather!!!
-
Its been raining since early afternoon....too hard to walk outside...Got a short walk early before work then a walk at lunch....On'y at 11,600 Going to walk around the house so I can get 12K. DH was in S. Florida on business and his flight just landed a good 2 hours late, due to weather...around 2 this afternoon, DIA stopped flights due to Thunderstorms and hail.....So it backed everything up! Long day for him.
Only 3 more days of work....I don't work Fridays and Monday is a holiday!! So ready for summer to be here!!
-
Kindergarten, I like my split level house with the laundry downstairs for the same reason. It makes me go up & down, up & down all day......
Wonderland, I think I have DH convinced that we need a new kitchen....which we truly do......it wouldn't be right away, but I can start doing some research anyway (can you spell GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT?)
PlanB, listen to your body. It's okay to tamp it down during radiation. You are keeping your fitness base, so you should be able to get back to your normal pretty quickly once you are done.
A friend gave me some rhubarb yesterday & tonight about 9:00 I decided I better do something with it. Since I was too lazy to go to the store, I googled recipes until I found one with the ingredients I had in the house. I found a rhubarb muffin recipe that called for orange juice (most have buttermilk in them), and they are very tasty and quite healthy too, I think (hopefully they are healthy as I just ate three of them!)
-
hi all, been raining the past few days so not much walking to report. Worked most nights until 9 pm.
Ruth, here's an easy recipe that uses common ingredients. Great with rhubarb (& strawberries yum).
Old-Fashioned Coffee Cake
Pre-heat oven to 375F
2 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
Brown sugar, cinnamon, ½ stick butter (works best if frozen)
Combine eggs, milk & sugar in one bowl. Combine flour & baking powder in another bowl. Keep wet and dry ingredients separate until the last minute to avoid activating the baking powder too soon.
Combine wet & dry ingredients, add fruit to the batter if you like. Spread batter in a 13x9x2 pan. Sprinkle liberally with brown sugar& cinnamon. Cut pieces or grate the butter over the top.
Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes. Bake 15 minutes more if you added fruit.
-
Going to plant the petunias around my Japanese Maple in a bit. Got a pack of red ones in honor of my Daddy and a pack of white ones just for some contrast. Will have to get 4 more bags of humus and manure mix for the veggie garden and get that ready as well as getting the plants and seeds for that a little later.
-
Ruth - your backyard is pretty as a picture! Oh no - not the dreaded kitchen remodel. A tip - minimize the number of days you go without water in there - you can always live with the fridge and microwave scattered into different rooms, but it's tough washing dishes in the bathroom sink! Badger - you're certainly putting in the work hours lately. Will things settle down soon?
2.5 mile run this morning - it's the first summer-like morning we've had - 70 and humid at 5:30am. I've got to remember to start taking a cooldry towel and some water with me now. And I forgot to wear my stepper!!!
-
I got a ton of exercise setting up for our Luncheon with the challenge being wearing attire that was professional while being able to do things like crawl on the floor stowing boxes under table clothes. Now on to the after-processing. Really major news. Re-engineered polio virus is in early clinical trials for not just brain cancer, but for a number of other cancers including breast cancer. And it's not the only immunotherapy being studied. So really a new frontier in treating cancer.
Here is a picture of me with Dr. Annick Desjardins of Duke. - Claire
-
Great recipe, Badger!! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Memorial weekend to everyone!!
-
Very awesome, Claire!
Did an hour of spot toning with Denise Austin this morning and took a walk just now. More bathroom and yard shopping in between.
-
Spread out 11 bags of humus and manure mix on the area where my veggie garden is. Planted my petunias around my Japanese Maple that I had planted 7 yrs ago in memory of my Daddy. Had a couple of white and a couple of red petunias left so into my window boxes they went with the marigolds. Going to do all petunias in my flower bed but in different colors
-
Looking good, Claire! Congrats on a successful event.
Yes been working lots of hours, 104 in the last two-week (80-hour) pay period. That's too much. Sup said track time to document workload, maybe get some help. IMO that's a remote possibility. Boss congratulates us on 'punching above our weight class' i.e. thanks for doing the work of three people for no extra pay. Experimented last month and didn't work extra hours for two weeks. My inbox exploded and I'm still digging out. Several projects turned in late. What stress is worse: working a ton of hours and getting things done, or working normal hours and not getting things done?
On the bright side, I brought no work home this long weekend and plan to dig in the dirt. We found a guy to take down the handicap ramp which doubles the planting space in the front yard. Need to assess in morning light but we may not have to do any concrete repairs.
(edit to add: for that recipe, any kind of fruit will work. I wouldn't add more than two cups, though.)
-
Yesterday did 3 mile Leslie Sansone walking tape. Was subbing for the lead and it's a beginner class. Can't even remember what elsi I did though I usually try and do 2 activities a day.
Today tried my hand (or shall I say arm and shoulder) in a dragonboat for an hour. Great upper body exercise. Just got home from an evening out dancing. Fun!
Started looking at airfares today for San Antonio in October. I will miss my Villages activities but can't wait to have our annual fun trip together.
Night sculpted friends.

Lovely picture Claire. Patoo I am excited too, only thing is I may also be going to Boston in August so I'm all over the place looking at airfares, and I'm going to a wedding in Santa Rosa in July which is in Napa Valley so I need to book my flights for that one too. Your garden sounds lovely M0mmy. Badger I know you're a very diligent worker BUT you deserve to be paid for what you do, if you look at it in terms of your worth you should be paid for every hour you work, it would be different if you were volunteering you are not, you drive a long way for your job and let me tell you if you fell off the earth tomorrow they wouldn't give a crap about you, now I'll get off my soapbox.
Had lunch today at Pacifc City which is a brand new mall right on PCH so we sat outdoors looking directly across the street at the pier and the ocean it was a beautiful sunny day and a lovely way to spend a few hours then this evening went to Zumba. -
Thanks Cheryl for the support. They 'talk the talk' about work-life balance but don't walk the walk. I do commute a long way so add fifteen hours a week and it's a serious chunk of time. But I do a lot of good in the world with my work and get compliments from many customers which is satisfying. There are people who care including my Sup TG but she's one voice among the top brass who see workers as assets to be deployed not people with outside lives. They would miss me because it would be hell to replace me. They could do it of course, no one's irreplaceable, but not easily or cheaply. Because I work hard, I add value to the organization and they have an incentive to keep me. I should do better at exploiting that but at this point, I'm working for my pension - eight years and counting until I can retire. In the meantime, I try to have some fun and get some rest. And exercise! Thunderstorms predicted for today but no rain yet so need to get outside while the getting is good. ♥
-
Ruth, beautiful backyard. Mine is still a work in progress after 18 years. Claire, I heard about the brain cancer study. Awesome to hear that they are studying other cancers too.
Had some fun today at our favorite amusement park. The show was too loud for my autistic ds but he went up for autographs after. He's come a long way. Tomorrow we lounge at the waterpark.
At the gym feeding the Fitbits.
