just really worried

Hi

Im 29 a mum of 5. My mum was 27 when she had BC, stage 2 and 3 tumours and went on to have a double mastectomy. I went to breast clinic today as i had a few big veins needed checking and i also found a lump on my other breast. The doctor who i saw was at first awful, not what you need when you are worried. I had a US what showed a small cyst. then when i went back into the room to see the doctor his attitude had changed and he was all nice saying he wanted to do a biposy. he said he thinks its nothing. But would he still do a biopsy if he thought it was nothing? plus where he took biospy is not near where i found the lump. It was a core needle biopsy i had done. Im just really nervous as i can remember how my mum was.

    Hi fluffyfi:

    Sorry you are dealing with this at your young age and with family history with your mom. When the pathology results from the core-needle biopsy come in, be sure to ask about the location of the palpable lump versus the area biopsied, and whether they are the same or different. It can be hard to think in three dimensions, so the point of needle entry may seem off the mark. However, do not hesitate to specifically ask about it if you have any doubts that the evaluation was not adequate.

    As scary as it is, it is good that he did the core biopsy.  Yes, definitely ask the questions Barred Owl suggested!  Sending my best to you as you WAIT!

    thank you. the waiting is awful. i will ask the questions. he took 4 or 5 samples is that a normal amount? how long does it take for your breast to not be as sore after the biopsy? its quite painful.

    I do not believe there is a correlation between the number and outcome. They sample until they think they have enough material from the area(s) of concern to be representative and informative. For example, it looks like I had 5 samples with a mammography-guided stereotactic core-needle biopsy of two areas (both malignant), and 9 samples with an MRI-guided vacuum-assisted biopsy of two areas (both benign).

    It kind of varies how long it takes to feel better, and can sometimes take a while for there to be no pain with movement/bounce. Did they give you mini-ice packs to tuck in your bra (20 mins on; 20 mins off)? Those worked better than tylenol.

    ok thanks i think im overthinking the whole appointment i had how the doctor acted before (like i was wasting his time) and then after i had my US he was completely sympatetic and nicely spoken as i was nervous of the core biopsy. i have been to brest clinic a few times but bever needed a biopsy. i do think the waiting is the hardest part.

    No they didnt give me anything im in the uk. they just said to take pain killers. i have a lovely bruise lol.

    It took about 3 days for my core needle biopsy to feel better. Ice and 800mg ibuprofen helped. Mine was really deep (against the chest wall- they got muscle tissue in the sample). They took 14 samples for me.

    Definitely rest. I was advised not to overdo it on that side. It helps to just take it easy.

    momof6littles thanks for replying im on day 2 they took them from behind my nipple. the cut is actually just under my nipple its so painful. im taking ibuprofen. can i ask how long you waited when you recieved your results from tge biopsy?

    My breast center was really quick. I found out by 3pm the next day. They have an in-house pathology lab. Other places can take longer. I know, the waiting is hard. By the way, my surgeon just told me that in order for ibuprofen to have an anti-inflammatory effect, it needs to be at least 600-800mg.

    im taking 400mg so i could take 2 and i might feel a bit better. wow that was quick. i think because of my mums history they are looking after me. they said every year when im 30 ill be having a mri. im 30 this year.
