I see a group for Weekly Taxol but I just came off AC and am moving to dose dense Taxol. My infusion will be 4 hours long! OUCH! I came thorugh AC okay. Some bad days, but thankfully not crazy bad. I am interested in hearing from others who have made this transition and what I can expect as far as SE's. My sincere apologies if this thread exists and I was too blind/blond to see it.

CJ, - Taxol is easier, - even dose dense. I didnt need neulasta, which was good. Also, I was advised to eat foods with magnesium ( such as mangos) during taxol.

    You will be fine!

Taxol was OK. It gave me mild diarrhea, which I managed with Immodium. It also did a number on my taste buds. You may want to suck on ice chips during your infusion, but it looks like they're spreading it out four hours for you. (They often do that with the first dose to test for allergic reactions.) You might not want to suck on ice chips for four hours.

In any case, my taste buds eventually came back, so that was a temporary setback....

I got some mild neuropathy on taxol. My fingertips were numb, and I still struggle a little with Ziplock bags.

I felt less spacey and chemo-brained on Taxol. My bones did get a bit achey, and I couldn't scooter very fast when scootering with my sons.

    Otherwise, that is it.

Best wishes! Hope you have few SEs!

CJ, I had dose dense taxol in 2013, right after dose dense A/C. It was much easier, for me than A/C. A/C was legal torture. I did have bone pain & fatigue with Taxol, but I was not near as sick.

I have read here just the opposite, so, we know everyone has different reactions. Good luck with your treatments, best part is you only have 2 months to go.

CJ, I finished a dose dense every other week treatment today. I found the side affects to easier. Taste buds are back and I don't have that over all sick feeling any more.

Down side for me is horrible joint pain, like taking vikoden kind of pain, it's at its worst about 4 days after treatment then starts to eases on the fifth day. By day 10 I feel good. I also have horrible heartburn but that has been an issue from the get go. Have bad neourapothy in my feet.Plus, I can't forgo nulasta injection, tried and WBC dropped

Hope this help, and good luck, you can do it.

    Hi Cj,

Glad to hear you are moving onto Taxol. AC was tough on me and honestly I didn't anticipate the issues, although minor in comparison, I would have with Taxol. I had an allergic reaction but no worries they upped my meds so I was able to continue and it was given to me very very slowly & the dosage reduced each time I received it. Then there was the tingling on my legs and arms feeling like something was crawling on me, that wasn't anything I had read about, again more annoying not painful. I did get neropathy in my feet and finger tips. My fingers are almost all better and it's just the soles of my feet now. Overall most people do amazing on Taxol & there is no reason to believe that you won't either. Just think by the end of July you will be finished. :))))

Best of luck. Sending you lots of love, prayers & hugs

    G

I'm so excited to be half way through! Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it. I'm going to try icing for the neuropathy as I type a lot for work and cannot afford to lose feeling in my hands. My finger tips are already kind of numb from AC. I'll let y'all know how it works.

My thoughts - day of Infusion (subject to change as SE's change. :p

LONG A$$ INFUSION! I sat in that chair for about 5 hours . Not fun. BUT, I did start with steroids, but I got 10 Mg, not the standard 20mg. I also got Benedryl, but no Zofran only Pecid AC as Taxol is very unlikely to cause nausea according to the nurse (Sue, I know you experience it though, so I'll keep an eye out). As Taxol can cause an allergic reaction and/or back spasms, they took the first 30 minutes to SLOWLY introduce it to my body, thankfully. I was told to immediately contact the nurse if my throat tickled or I had trouble breathing. Also if my back felt funny. I was fine. The Benedryl about knocked me on my butt.
