Pretty much what I have encountered researching this issue. Hopefully, they'll find something definitive either way.

I think that article for the most part was fairly positive in the direction research may be headed and validated the general feeling that cannabis has a place in cancer therapy.

Artist, yes, absolutely. I think it does a good job of summing up where the science stands, what sort of uses have proved helpful, and what sort of uses are still only hypothesis.

Definitely need more research. There is a (near?) complete lack of human trials in answering the big question as to whether or not it affects cancer itself. Anyone know of any legit human research results on this topic?

I do not Timothy, only hearsay from some books, articles, and some personal "testimony". I am pretty careful about ingesting anything new without definitive proof of benefit. However, I would feel pretty comfortable using CBD if and when I need pain relief, appetite stimulation or if it proved to help me with anxiety. If it happens to help with tumors, so much the better!

My understanding is that the reason we don't know more at this point is because of the difficulty of medical labs obtaining marijuana, and the stuff the govt will let them have is often poor quality.

Piper, I have seen this rumor going around the web, but I have not actually seen anything about it from actual researchers, and I have seen quite a lot of cannabis research of various kinds.

Just published: "Cannabis use linked to gene mutation"
    http://medicalxpress.com/news/2016-05-cannabis-linked-gene-mutation.html

    Excerpt:
    - Scientists from The University of Western Australia have identified how using cannabis can alter a person's DNA structure, causing mutations which can expose them to serious illnesses, and be passed on to their children and several future generations.
    - the mutations passed on by a father's sperm can cause serious and fatal illnesses in their children.

Science version of the news: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0027510716300574

    Interesting.
My wife's father was a regular cannabis smoker and made Cheech & Chong look like Saints. He was definitely getting high - before, during and after the conception of my wife in the late 1960's.
This research obviously needs more validation, but if true, it certainly could be a contributing factor to my wife's cancers (lymphoma as a teenager and today's breast cancer battle) and explain thousands of other cancers today.

This is theoretical research based on an analysis of the literature and other people's research. They didn't actually do a study that proved anything. I'm sure there ARE many chemicals (natural and man made) that cause mutations. Very hard to pin it on one thing, though, since we are all exposed to so many different things. And I wonder how marijuana would rank compared to tobacco in its effects. For what it's worth neither of my parents smoked any marijuana but they both smoked cigarettes (and my mom smoked a pipe for awhile).
