Using Elasto-gel to control hair loss

Hi,

I am here to get some advice for my sister. She was diagnosed last month - has already gone through first chemo and getting concerned about hair loss. I am considering sending her elasto-gel caps and band to protect the eyebrows. But struggling to find information on how to cool the caps -would household freezer be sufficient or we need a deep freezer? or Dry ice is the only option (most likely)?

The hospital where she is getting treatment is not aware of cold caps. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as she is soon to go for 2nd round of chemo and I just hope I can arrange everything before that.

Many thanks for help.

I'm almost certain you have to start with the first one most of the time hair loss starts pretty quick by day 14 after first chemo mine was day 18 but the damage may already be done. There is a few different companies Penquin cold caps , you may google them and call there customer service or there is a thread on hear in discussion boards. I didn't do it but I did check into it.

    Welcome pracb

I have not used the caps but there is a lot of information about them on this site. You can do a key word search.

I empathise completely but I'm concerned it may be too late to save your sister's hair if she has already started chemo. It usually starts falling out en masse about day 16 after chemo. You may be able to halt some loss but not all.

Wishing your sister the best with her treatment. She is lucky to have your kind support.
