Fibroadenoma and Ductal Hyperplasia and surgery??

I am 40yrs old and they found a lump in my first mammogram. I went back for a diagnostic and an ultrasound a week later.

The results were:

Solid 1.9cm suspected intraductal mass at the 3:00 periareolar left breast. BI-RADS Category 4b

I had a needle core biopsy last Monday.

The results were:

Fibroadenoma with complex features.

Sections show a fibroadenoma with complex features, including moderate ductal hyperplasia and focal sclerosis. There is no evidence of malignancy.

The nurse called me and gave me the results from my biopsy, but didn't really explain it. I went to see a breast surgeon today and she had a HORRIBLE bedside manner, basically acted like we were wasting her time and didn't really explain anything except they want to take it out. She only mentioned the fibroadenoma, nothing about the hyperplasia.

I made another appointment for Friday with a local general surgeon that comes highly recommended by a friend. Until then my brain is freaking out. Everything I read about the hyperplasia seems like it can lead to other things, why wouldn't the first surgeon even mention it? I was so taken aback by her coldness that I couldn't even ask a question.

    Bigheadmama-

We're so sorry you had such a disappointing experience with the breast surgeon. We know that what you're going through is probably very stressful and scary, and to be treated that way by a doctor is just unacceptable. Is there any way you can seek out a second opinion, from another surgeon? At the very least, you should have your diagnosis and options explained carefully to you, and have your questions answered! We hope you find another, more personable and helpful doctor, please keep us posted!

I have an appointment with a general surgeon tomorrow morning. He comes highly recommended by my doctor and a friend who has been his patient before.
