Am I overthinking this....follow up scan is it necessary?

I had a liver scan 6 months ago and the finding was a cyst high in protein. MO said to follow up in 6 months and here we are, scan is Monday and I'm starting to get nervous. From what I've read cysts are common and it is not likely to "turn" cancerous, so now I"m wondering what is the point to the follow-up? The anxiety of the scan process is awful, it's a mental beating that I'd prefer to avoid. I just called MO's office and left a message for the nurse to please call me and explain exactly why we are doing this.

IDK, I guess I'm looking for a way out of this. Why go thru the anxiety for just being overly cautious, I mean is it really neccessary??

Tangandchris, (((((hugs)))) I am so sorry that you are going through this. I just finished getting my post chemo pet scan and you are right, the anxiety is horrendous. A part of me wants confirmation that I am fine and the other part just wants to be in denial and keep moving on. I have a thyroid nodule that they are watching and I have to have follow up scans every 6 months to a year now. Sigh. I understand how frustrating it is but perhaps MO just wants to be cautious.

I totally understand - yesterday was torture as I went to get results of my first PET. I felt like I was walking towards a death sentence. But - it turned out ok.

I guess part of us knows that scans are part of the vigilance we need in those who care for us. It is as bad to have nagging doubts and a Dr who resists scans - also torturous. This horrible disease brings so many types of mental difficulty. I think all we can do is try to live moment by moment in the hardest times and resist projecting fear and imagined scenarios onto what hasn't happened yet. I know this but haven't yet learnt how to do it yet.

Very very good luck and gentle wishes x

    thanks ☺

Sometimes I just get a little crazy with all this stuff. I'm just gonna do it and take it a moment at a time.

    This too shall pass....

    Thanks SS!

I'm okay, still waiting. I started to panic some last night but I talked it out with DH and it helped me. I just hate the waiting, why does it take so long?? I had the scan Monday morning so Tuesday afternoon shouldn't be that unrealistic to get a call. So then I start to think well maybe that is good news, you know they aren't in a huge hurry to get back to you. OR it could mean that MO is dicussing results with a collegaue to get a clearer understanding of something they saw and that is the delay.

It's a crazy mind game, but bottom line I have no control of this part and I hate that!!

It's been my experience that no news is definitely good news.

When I got the brain mets Dx back in Jan, I got the call within 40 minutes of having the scan.

The week after that, I had body scans. No one got back to me until my follow-up appointment...I was on pins and needles. They were clear.

Oncs are busy enough with crisis situations that communicating good news falls to the bottom of the to-do list.

Given that the cyst was low suspicion anyway, I'm 99% sure you're fine

IDK, I have no experience with gall bladder issues. Is that where the pain is felt for gall bladder?

I just wish MO would call with something, ya know??
