Tamoxifen ... Hot flashes driving me nuts

Options

Need some words of encouragement . Started Tamoxifen in January and was having nightly night sweats so my oncologist prescribed Effexor XR 37.5 .. Didn't want to start but he told me to give it a try . Did notice less hot flashes for some time . Then last month I went in and explained I was having more frequent hot flashes , he had done some blood work the month before and told me I was now post menopausal according to the estrogen levels. He said that might be my reason for the increase in hot flashes .. He wanted me to up my dose of Effexor to 75 mg. I tried it for a week and felt horrible ! Also was sweating more , so weird .. Now I went back down to 37.5mg but honestly want off all this Effexor .. but I'm so scared these hot flashes will be unbearable ... All these options stin

Hi there. So sorry you are having such a hard time. Hot flashes are the pits. I have tried 2 different supplements for my hot flashes that seem to help. One is called Icool and I get it on Amazon. The other is Remizen and I buy it on the website. They are both hormone free but check with your MO first. You could start it and after a couple of weeks try to wean off the Effexor. Im really not a fan of taking one medication to counteract anothers SE. Good luck and keep us posted....

Mine come and go--they disappear, then I think they are gone, and then whammo, back for a while. Very odd, but probably Tamoxifen normal. Hang in there. You may really find they relent after time, just know it can rise and fall. They are the pits, I am so sympathetic. They have ruined my sleep at times, and are very embarrassing at work.

I take 600mg of gabapentin an hour before bed & don't have hot flashes/night sweats anymore. I really notice a difference if I forget to take it. MO wanted me to go on effexor, but I was very reluctant. This has worked for me for 5 years now. GG
