Sometimes putting them in order helps me think.

8. It usually has a function.
9. You could hang it up (say, on a wall or from the ceiling)
10. Not a picture frame.

11. Is it a calendar?

I think I might have misled. Let me clarify that in #9, is it not likely to be hung up, but could be hung up (but, HINT, then would be more decorative than functional). I'll not count Q#11 because of the clarification and no, it's not a calendar!

And if hung, would be more decorative than functional...so not a sconce (my next guess)

11. Do you wind it up to make it work? (thinking of a music box)

12. Is it kept in the kitchen?
