Karen, hugs to you. I'm sure it will help to get together with your kids and this will pass, but I just wanted to say I can relate. I've had that exact same feeling of sadness and not even pinpointing exactly what it is. I have a lot going on lately and all of it together is just making it hard to find the happy. I find exercise does help, so keep that up! My mom almost never goes out of the house either and I feel bad that she doesn't feel like doing things she used to.

Ah Karen, sending a hug out to you. I was the primary kid (I guess you'd call it that) around trying to navigate things when first my mom and then my dad declined in health and eventually died (with a nice dose of cancer just for me wedged in between the two events). It is so, so hard and sad. I miss my mom every day, so Mothers Day always makes me teary.

I think birthdays, especially ones ending in 0, are always a time of reflection.....which tends to make one teary too. So, have a good cry and then enjoy your day!

I need to get half an hour of toning & the same of something aerobic done to meet my weekly goal, so I better go do it before the going out to eat activities begin. Happy Mothers Day to all mothers, aunts, and mentors of young women!

Ruth - sounds like a difficult time with your mom and strong memories of the ordeal you went through at age 50. It is so hard to watch loved ones decline :-(.

TwoHobbies - I am sorry for your trying times as well and hope this spell of sadness passes soon.

Wishing all you lovely women a Happy Mothers' Day--or Happy Pet Moms' Day.

(p.s. - thanks for all of your sentiments for the BF--he is going to recover fine).

Karen - I am sorry for the difficult time you are having and for your mom's health issues. It is so hard to watch our loved ones decline, so to be emotional is understandable. Go easy on yourself. And to also have so many painful memories of your 50th is difficult as well. Hugs to you, and I hope there are some bright moments in your day.

TwoHobbies - I hope that these trying times pass soon and that you find more moments of happiness.

To all you mothers and pet moms -- Happy Mother's Day!

(P.S. - thank you for your sentiments regarding the BF--he is going to make a full recovery in time.)

((Karen)) sorry about your mom and feeling blue. Hope you had that good cathartic cry and that today is better than yesterday. Happy 60th birthday! That's a milestone and so is 10 years NED.

((TwoHobbies)) being tired & stressed just saps my joy. I do exercise but don't get enough sleep.

Did 14,000 steps in four hours = 6.7 miles. No wonder my feet are sore!

Today I did my second longer hike. We always do a good hike on Sundays. It is my sanctuary. I am grateful.

I am 4 days past treatment two with taxol, herceptin and perjeta. I felt a little more tired this time but am really happy to report that I still did the 4 miles with an 800 ft. vertical climb. We are hiking in Berkeley at a regional wilderness called Tilden. We hike the seaview trail which gives you a view of the entire bay, the Golden Gate bridge and the ocean from the top. You can even see Mt. Diablo to the east from the top.

At the top is a labyrinth that I always walk. It is made from stone. When I get to the middle, I stretch out my hands for healing. I love it.

It is a more gentle hike than what we have been doing other Sundays but still had a lot of good climbs. I am comfortable there because I know what to expect. It was also cold and foggy (welcome to summer in the bay) so I didn't have to worry so much about my head getting hot (cold capping).

Saturday seems to be my hump day. So Sunday starts the week out well. Monday and Tuesday are really good then infusion on Wednesday.

I have been able to keep up my exercise every day except infusion day. I would love to be able to exercise before we go but since we have to drive into San Francisco, we leave really early. Traffic is a beast. And I did miss Tuesday because I got my port. But I was back on track and even if it is just riding the stationary bike for 45 minutes, I make it a priority.

I am looking forward to my port fully healing because right now, yoga is out of the question.

Clair in Seattle: The bike sounds great. I am so looking forward to getting back on the bike. I can't wear my helmut (cold capping again) but it is truly one of the things I love. What a great ride you had.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you mom's out there. And thumbs up to all the proud, beautiful women navigating through this with such grace.

Katcar so glad your BF is okay, he probably has a long road to recovery but he will have you at his side. Susan your hike sounds beautiful. ((Karen)) so tough to have to watch your parent decline and when your birthday comes around it is a time of reflection hug your Mom, hug your kids and know that they love you unconditionally and what could be more valuable than that as a gift to yourself. (TH) be kind to yourself.

Had a fabulous day yesterday, went to what is known as a Super Quarterly, where they bring in Master Trainers from all over the US and present all the new Les Mills programs that are about to be released, it was an exhausting day did Body Pump, Body Step, Body Jam, Sh'bam, Body Combat and RPM, what a day 32,849 steps on my Fitbit and I earned a 'Castle' badge which said I had climbed 200 flights of stairs, must have been all the up and down in Body Step. Went out to dinner with friends after then home, fed the fur kids and was in bed at 9pm. Today has been lazy, went and got a pedicure and a haircut d now relaxing and watching some good British drama on my DVR.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes and b'day wishes. Brunch with Mom was nice. They made the dining room so pretty. Lots of food. We sat with some of the women that she eats dinner with but little conversation. As soon as we were done eating she wanted to leave so we went up to her apt. Mom signed up to go on a trip where she lives (to Glenwood Springs this Tuesday to Thursday) When she tried to say she couldn't go the activity director talked Mom into going saying we'll take care of you. I don't think they know how much help Mom needs. I packed a suitcase for Mom but told her I would call the activity director tomorrow. I think Mom felt relieved but don't know if it will do any good. To be honest if she looses the $300 some dollars it will be better than her going and being miserable. It just breaks my heart.

In the afternoon, DH and kids gave me my presents...of course they spoiled me...but the greatest gifts were not the material things, but the kind, sweet, wonderful words my children had for me, in cards and on fb. It reminds me that I have done good by my kids. They make me proud. I had asked my DH for a swatch watch anmd I picked it out...well he surprised me with a pair of chaco sandals too. He shops online so he always finds a deal. DS got me a hanging basket of petunias for the front of the house (he's done that the past couple years) and a tiger lily plant. DD#2 got me a bracelet that she designed on etsy and roses and DD#1 and SIL gave me a pair of earrings....She also order me flowers that never came. I felt so bad for her. They were supposed to be delivered Friday and sill haven't arrived. She got a message saying they were delivered but not to my house. I told her to call and demand a refund. She even sent me a picture of what she ordered and they were beautiful. But she spent too much money so I hope she gets the refund. I then treated myself to a mani/pedi. Dinner was grilled chicken wings, sweet potatoe fries and cut up veggies. I don't like going out on busy days like today. Rather eat home.

60 is so much better than 50. It is a privilege to grow older...one that is denied to so many. Here's to growing old!!! Hugs from Denver

Karen, so sorry about the flowers. However, I suspect that all will be fine soon, and you will have blooms an extra day or 2. It's nice to be spoiled every now and then. Make sure you celebrate for an entire birthday month.

I am feeling my Saturday ride a bit this morning in my legs and lower back. Just a bit sore, so fine. This is how I get stronger. Upper body is looking a lot more sculpted as are my legs.

I finally planted geraniums and got my deck ready for the summer. Lovely to sit out on warm evenings.

Wishing everyone a wonderful week! - Claire

A little behind on this thread....just returned from a wonderful visit with my son's family.

Belated Happy Birthday, Karen, and, yes, I truly understand your feelings about your mom. My mom had Dementia and it was very difficult as she was always so strong and independent. She passed away right before Zi was diagnosed last year. Enjoy the time you have with her. I miss my mom so much.

Claire, You are amazing. Doesn't your butt get sore???? Ha Ha. I mean, really, mine does after 10 miles! I would like to eventually do longer rides. Any suggestions?

Walk Away the Pounds later today.

Let's put it this way. There is a reason the US cycling team chose Assos (a Swiss brand) as their supplier of cycling gear.

So I suck it up and spend megabux on their cycling shorts for long distances. They make all the difference in the world, although I do admit to being a bit tender in my lady parts at the moment. No, you don't need Assos for distances under 50 miles, but you do need padded shorts from a good sporting goods place. Since I almost never do less than 20 miles, I wear either shorts or tights with generous padding.

Expect to spend over $50 for decent ones that will do the job. Padded shorts are not an affectation as I have learned. The Assos knickers I have my eyes on are $135 and this is with a steep discount. Worth every single penny. I have snazzy cycling tights that are very good and made in Spain, but nowhere nearly as comfortable as Assos.

All this said, doing the Seattle-to-Portland is one occasion where I would be comfortable sharing a room with a guy and be totally safe!!! I have it on good authority (a fellow cyclist I dated a couple of years ago) that it takes a guy a week to recover in that department!

Attaching a picture of the scenery from last Saturday's event. We cycled around Chuckanut mountain in the distance. At the far left, you can just make out mountains in the far distance. Those are north of Vancouver BC. - Claire

    Fun picture!

Subbed yesterday & did my Zumba/yoga evening. Went to POUND this morning & subbing this afternoon. Our bathroom remodel is running into tons of snags, so every other minute has been spent working on that. Yuck at this point!

Katcar: So sorry about your bf! Sending him healing thoughts.

Karen: Happy Belated Birthday. You have 3 awesome kids.

    Claire: Great picture.

Badger: Went to a festival this weekend. The Punch Brothers played. Dh said they were at MerleFest last year but I don't remember seeing them.

Hi All. Just a quick check in. I've been busy spring cleaning in the garage. Yard work for a couple of hours today was digging up weeds that look like they belong in a jungle. The rain we had last week really made them grow!

Have been working out on a regular basis. I lost a total of 10 pounds. Set a new goal of 10 pounds but I am not going to push it and will keep at the weight loss at a gradual rate.

congrats M0mmy, that's great! I'm drowning in work (brought some home) so not much exercise to post.

Wonderland, I'm jealous! Missed them at MF last year too but was probably seeing something else equally amazing. Punch Bros were at Overture Center in Madison in Dec but they're an expensive venue and my concert ticket budget was zero so had to pass. Some of my favorite musicians - Chris Thile on mando, Noam Pikelny on banjo, and Gabe Witcher on fiddle. Bryan Sutton played guitar with them for a while.

Struggling to get more than 13+K steps/day. Today, I went to the Rockies game with the kids at school...the whole school went. The seats were in the way up high section but on the side by the diamond so could at least see them play. The kids really had a good time and were well behaved. Each adult had about 4 kids. It is fun to see them in a different setting.

I finally did my self evaluation yesterday and finished the write up on my learning objectives. They were approved by my supervisor...first time in a couple years I've met both objectives. With my assignment it is hard to and since I've been doing this for so many years, it is only a bonus not base building. Frustrated about my assignment for next year...still don;t know what it will be....I have to pick up 2 days....really hoping for a 2 day assignment so I only have 3 schools instead of 4 - one day schools. There have been no postings in over a month and the only ones have been full time. I only work 4 days/week and have NO desire to go 5 days. The increase this year to 4 days from 3 is noticeable...much less time for me....rarely get to see my friends...and I miss that but think I need to stay at 4 days for the $.

My St. Bernard knocked a lamp off the side table in the living room and broke it...it was ceramic so not fixable...really annoyed but what can I do....She always goes to that table to try to see out and bark, but is been 4 years and first time lamp fell on floor!! Can't punish her cuz I didn't see it happen.

Tomorrow is my son's 27th birthday...the last of the May b'days. He is going out with friends. Hoping he'll be home when I get home so I can give him his present. Would like to get a couple pictures but won't get my hopes up.... at least I got a few on Sunday....Just giving him cash. Then he leaves for S.D. on Friday for his summer job through at least September.

Treated myself to a mani/pedi on Sunday...Woke up this morning to nail polish already peeling...geeze its only 3 days!!! I used their polish so it will be hard to touch it up...I do have polish at home, but probably not the same exact color.....might just do clear to help keep it. I just do the regular nail polish....I've stayed away from gels or whatever they are called...I know they last longer, but I've heard they are hard on the nails.

Got to go book some summer travel tickets for my DD#2...

    Sweet dreams....

Body Jam yesterday. Will go get new sneakers today as I forgot them at the gym and nobody has turned them in yet. Very strange. Maybe someone thought to do me a favor and tossed them since they had seen better days.

Worked out the night before, so yesterday I tackled laundry. Did three loads and hung them out. So most of my day was hauling laundry in from the line, fold it, run it upstairs and put it away. Was tuckered out!

Hello everyone! I have been out of the loop here. So far I have walked 74k this week. Unfortunately I had to skip the workout on Tuesday and Wednesday due to my dreadful colonoscopy. Happy to say it was all clear and that it is behind me now.

    Karen Happy Belated Birthday!

Scottie- Way to go w/15 k steps a day! Good for you! I need to step it up too, my workouts have been slacking.

Mommy- Laundry is exhausting. I am constantly doing it, but it is a workout.

Ruth-Painting is in my untrue this summer break too. Hoping to paint my front door and my daughter's room. Well I always start my summer w/ many things I plan to do, but I don't always accomplish them.

    Yay for good results Annie

Congrats on the weight loss Mommy

Claire beautiful scenery for your ride.

Scottie I have have joined the two Fitbit family, I got myself a One mainly for Cycle as the HR doesn't register 'steps' on the bike and sometimes my wrist get itchy with the HR so I can switch off

Ruth you know what they always say, double the time and double the money on any project.

My routine this weeks has been Tuesday - Zumba, Wednesday - Body Combat and tonight a double header - Body Combat and Body Pump.
