Newly diagnosed ILC, Stage IIIA, what do I do now?

Dear friends

I was diagnosed with ILC on 3/30/16 and, although at MRI the greatest dimension was 2.5cm with no signs of adenopathy, at surgery they found it to be 6cm with 3 mm in 1 sentinel node (other 27 nodes were cancer free).

Now they are recommending chemo, hormone replacement and radiation therapy and I don't know what to do.

Oncologist said if I don't do anything, I have 50% chance of recurrence - how do I verify that?

Are there other alternative treatments that anyone on this board has done with success?

Thanks for any input

Newly diagnosed ILC, Stage IIIA, 6cm, Grade 2, 1 node, ER+/PR+, HER2- what do I do now?

OK 50% chance of recurrence seems very high to me compared to the rest of your statistics.  Have a look on this site about absolute percentages and relative percentages.  If you look at this link on here

    http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/diagnosis/prognosis

you can see that the survival rate for Stage III cancers is 72%, somewhat higher than you have been told............What is key with your statistics is how high your hormone positivity is as hormone treatment is a SYSTEMIC treatment like chemo, there is a lot of info missing for me for you to be able to make a good and qualified decisión.......

I have the same diagnoses as you except my mass is a bit larger. I am doing surgery first, then chemo, they told me rads only if I do a lumpectomy, and I am doing a mastectomy on my right. I am curious to know the same info as you, as I was also recently diagnosed. Good luck and take good care of yourself.

I wish I could advise you better, but I can only give you my feeling about treatment overall--once I was dx, I wanted to throw every single thing that docs were offering me this first time around (and some they weren't, like both radiation and a BMX) because if that damned bc came back later, I wanted to at least tell myself that I did everything I could to keep it away. I think I was more afraid of regrets than of the bc.

I would hesitate to advise on only using alternative treatments since I never considered just that as a way to treat my dx. I do know that ILC does have a higher tendency to be multi-focal, and although it seems to be a bit of a slower mover overall, does also have a higher tendency to recur later in life.

I was terrified of chemo, rads, bmx, all that. But when I began to make friends on this board and read all the positive posts about women who came through all that just fine, I quickly lost my fear and found my courage.

I hope others will post here and try to answer your questions, but you can also ask us more or look at some of the other threads like chemo, rads, alternative treatment, etc. to gather your own info.

    Hugs

    Claire

    Dear Friends

Thanks to all who have replied. to Lily55, I am +3 for both ER and PR and Dr was not giving prognosis with treatment, just risk of recurrence prior to any additional treatments. still with only 1 node affected (3mm) out of 27 taken out I thought that 50% chance of recurrence prior to treatment seems high.

    Thanks for any input
