Georgia, i am sending gentle hugs and prayers out to you. This night may sèem long if you are worried but rest easy... you will soon join our ranks... the armies of strong willed warriors who have chosen to shed that which the bc beast devours. We will live on with new boobs that will make it appear as if we found a fountain of youth for breasts ")

What i wrote to Screams with Twig goes for you too. See you on the other side! Sweet dreams!

Thank you for being here to help prepare and guide Georgia and I through this new_me. Georgia I know you are on your way. It will all be over soon and your cocoon will be built. Let the transformation begin and embrace life with cancer behind you! From my hospital bed, I'm standing beside you, twig at the ready. Guarding you while your surgeons clear you of this disease. I've got you back! I'm sending you strength and courage. It only gets better from here!. Love and hugs,

new_me, thank you for an amazing post. Your words are comforting and appreciated. By doing this, we are hopefully beating the odds. My risk for BC is now closer to 5% rather than 90%. I've made the right choice. No looking back.

Thank you for being here to support me in this difficult time!

Hugs to you LRG! Congrats on sounding so good!! And good luck Georgia!

Trip with the hubs was great! I called it my boobymoon! :) Waiting for my son to get home from work, calling my other son and then off to bed!!

Continue to feel better and better!

One awesome thing. Leaving the fitness center to go to the room to put on my bathing suit. Skip the bra! My foobs stand straight and proud. :) And in Vegas my foobs fit right in! ;)

ha ha katy. Love it. No more droopy boobs for me. At the moment, no boobs at all but that is just a phase I'm going through. ;-)

Can't wait now till we regrow a perfect pair!

Hardest thing right now is breathing deep. I'll keep doing my breathing exercises. And stay on top of my pain meds.

My PS did not prescribe any exercises post surgery. And the nurses not have any idea what I was asking about when I asked about ROM exercises. They did not show me any at all. Just said not to raise my arms above my shoulder and don't push or pull anything. No weight limits etc...

Ive read the notes from the doctor. It looks like he simply wants minimal movement for the first week. I'll be calling his office tomorrow to verify this minimal movement order.

Very glad to be home now. Tired and hoping to get a good night's sleep.

Georgia thinking of you as this day comes to an end. Your new life awaits! I hope surgery went well and that you are comfortable. Did you have a sentinel node biopsy during surgery? I had it with mine.

Take comfort in the knowledge that you are fighting back at bc and getting the upper hand. Soon it will be just a blip in the stream of your life. You will have new younger boobs to lead you on (lol depending on your implant size the new boobs might be far ahead of you . Take care of yourself and know that it only gèts better! Diane

Georgia, I'm hoping your nurses are giving you the appropriate pain meds and you are resting comfortably. I'm home and nestled into a warm recliner, thinking of you and hoping your surgery went smoothly!

It only gets better from where you are. So hang in there!.

LRGO good to hear you are home! Are the TEs ok? Did your surgeon fill them a bit during surgery? I imagine you have 4 drains? They are a major nuisance and probably the worst part of this surgery. My husband took over the whole drain part. it gave him a job to do that helped me. He emptied then measured output, kept a chart, and tucked them back into my camisole. So sweet. I hope you are comfortable and resting. Soon (in a few weeks) you will begin the TE fills. Do not dread these. They did not hurt and I found it fascinating to watch them expand a little more each time. As i said before there is beauty in every step of this transformation. Rather than wishing this be over, embrace each change, every step. You are becoming a new you! Blessings, Diane

Yes Dianne, I have 4 drains and I'm learning what works as far as dealing with these temporary appendages. Right now I have them hanging from a lanyard. It keeps them handy where I can see them easily and empty them as needed. I wore my camisole home, it was great for holding everything in place. When I go out to my first checkup next week, I'll wear it .

My husband has tube stripping duty as I don't have the ROM or strength to do it myself. He did fine at the hospital and will do fine tomorrow too I'm sure.

Right now my boobs are wrinkled empty bags of skin. I can see the drain outlines under the skin and the tissue expander forms in there. I dont think there is much fluid in them yet-but I forgot to ask the surgeon if he added any fluid to start. I'll find out next week. As for now, I'm completely at peace with it all now. I'm actually rather intrigued by this process. I look at these funny looking deflated sacks that were my boobs and I am really curious how they are going to change with time. I'm not even worried at how misshapen they are now because I've got faith in my PS and his ability to transform these sacks into new perky boobs. WOW! This is going to be an interesting experiment! We will be photo documenting the whole process starting tomorrow.

The scientist in me is back in control. I'm the experiment! I've never done this before so I'm actually finding the whole idea rather amazing.

I plan on being proactive and driving the outcome. If I'm not happy with the results, I'll ask him to fix it... plain and simple. I've seen his work and the results look good. If I'm lucky, maybe I'll be one of his Model patients who he wants to show pictures of to other women embarking on this journey. I'll be happy to talk to them and to try to help them find hope for a new future.

But that is WAY off in the future for me right now. First I'm focused on simply healing. Getting beyond the discomfort I am currently experiencing. Thank you so much for being here to encourage and support me as I march through this process. You are a treasure to me!

LRGO i understand completely about being the experiment. I viewed it the same way! I am a former science & math teacher with a natural curiosity for interesting 'stuff' : ) i was fascinated with the healing process and then the rebuilding. In awe of what plastic surgeons can do.

You and Georgia have helped me! I didn't discuss what fears i had or my post op experience very much. Posting to you and Georgia has been therapeutic in that respect. We are all in this together. Sleep well my friend. You have earned it. Diane

Hey Diane, now that I'm beyond the first surgery, and I see you've had the second surgery, I will be interested in hearing about your recovery from the implants and fat grafting. Not today mind you. I'm focused on current events now but once I'm feeling better and have my worst pain behind me, are you willing to share your experience?

LRGO and Georgia , i hope you are both recovering well. Are the drains becoming a nuisance? Hopefully they will be pulled soon. Usually one on each side goes first followed about a week later by the others. I hope you are as comfortable as can be. Hugs and sweet dreams. Diane

drains are a nuisance but are not causing much discomfort (unless the occasional stabbing pain 8 feel is related to them and not the TEs. Mine are already starting to have decreasing discharge. Two of them are already below 30 mil outputs and this is day 3 beyond surgery! Who knows, they may remove them sooner than expected! That would be great. I'm keeping mine hanging from a Lanyard. Makes it easy to monitor and empty them.

I got stronger pain meds today. Now I'm resting much better. My pain is controlled. This will all be over soon. Cant wait to be free of these contraptions. Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the hugs and well wishes. Your thoughts are truly appreciated!

Hi special ladies! So sorry I have been slack at the post-op update! I sure appreciate your thoughts and prayers!

Lol Katykids-LOVE that! Foobs! Lol! Work it, baby, work it!

My BMX with TE placement on the 5th went very well! Smoothly they said. New_me yes BS did a sentinel node biopsy but he updated my husband instead of me because I was still asleep, I know he took out a few and saw no cancer so didn't remove any more of them. Since chemo was first with good results I didn't expect there would be cancer there.

LRGO! So do the lanyards weigh your neck down? I have one to use but am afraid it may weigh too heavily on my neck because I had neck surgery in 2014. It is a Redskins lanyard hehehe! I am trying a fanny pack tomorrow to hold them. The camisole's Velcro is irritating me. And no weight restrictions?! Wow. I am restricted to no more than 5-10 pounds.

My pain meds are running out but she approved a refill for tomorrow and said the pain was normal-totally agree with the level 8 stabbing or sharp pain, usually in the lymph node area, but it is also bad if I sleep like 8 hours not waking up to medicate and the chest area and arm pit areas are sore.

I'm loving this recliner! Can't wait for the shower chair to arrive, supposedly tomorrow!

Hope you all are doing well! I don't know what I am saying since I am so sleepy and need to go night night! Hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Mother's Day. Your support is invaluable to me!

    Much love and hugs!

    Georgia 💛

P.s. I have 4 drains. PS said I will pretty much have them in 3-4 weeks!! Whaa??!! They already aren't draining that much! My sweet hubby spoils me by doing the drains also. And I love it when he wakes up to do it in just his boxers and hand gloves-so sexy!!! Lo

Hi all! Today has been a mix of long good and short bad moments. When I accidently move wrong, I experience intense stabbing pain that lasts for usually less than 30 seconds. Mostly I'm feeling better each day though. And, the tightness in my chest is lifting somewhat. One of my drains is dry!...no output at all! Another has not put out more than a few mils each day. Tomorrow I go to the doc for my first followup. Maybe they will remove the two underperformers!

We allowed my old golden to visit me today - she and I were so happy to see each other! Here's her picture. .. she has been keeping a vigil outside my door since I got home.

    Say hi to Meg!

Hope all the other post surgery ladies out there are healing well. For the ladies in waiting, good luck to you! This too shall pass and soon!

    imageHi LRGO!

I'm so sorry you had those pains. I am accidentally moving wrong at times as well and suffer for it. Yes for me also, finally the chest isn't as tight. I think the more we heal and feel better with time, we may have more accidental wrong moves which cause pain, because we probably for a moment forget what we have been through because we felt normal! Does that make any sense?

Aww hi Meg!! She is so sweet! I have allowed out kitty Marcus to come in some times. Sugar has stayed clear! Here they are side by side. My nurse kitties (Sugar and Marcus)!

    Hugs always to you!

I can hear their purrs from here! Gotta love our animal friends!

Are you able to lie down to sleep yet? I have to sit nearly straight up! Or no less than about 60 degrees.

I did have a pain free window of time tonight! I'm so happy! It was after Norco tablet and I was sitting very still. Improving every day! Should get two drains out tomorrow. No output, completely dry! I'll let you know. Sleep well my sister!

    Great news everyone,

I got two drains out today, got a seal of approval from the PSA about the health of my skin and incisions and we expect to remove one or both of the remaining drains next week! The removal was absolutely pain free! I was worried as I am still sore from the surgery but there was NO PAIN! YIPEE!!!

May get two remaining drains out next week. We will start fills immediately after drains are removed. I can't believe it! That fast. Amazing.

I'm feeling great today and am actually starting to feel human again! I've been warned the TE process will be somewhat uncomfortable and will give me sensations of heaviness in my chest. I've also been told this will pass with time as my body adapts.

Does anyone out there have advice for weathering the fill process?

Recording my great day in my log book now!...

    Hi LRGO!

Yay woot woot!!! So happy you got two drains out with no pain!! I cannot wait to get mine removed!

Well in the recliner I am able to lay back almost all the way but it isn't flat and usually I don't try to lay all the way back. Did you hear a time frame on when we might be able to?

I'm very excited for my f/u appt on Thursday. Do you have any recommendations for good questions to ask my PS?

Thank you so much for your great updates!

    Love sent!

    Georgia 😊

Definitely ask them about any swelling or puffyness you might have. Ask also about range of motion exercises (what to do or not by what date). I've gotten a remarkably limited amount of guidance on this so far. I think because Ive done this surgery preemptively, and no muscle or lymph nodes were lost, I don't have the same limits you might be facing. Clarity on that concept would be nice. My guess is that each of us will have a specific regimen to follow designed for our individual circumstances. Please ask your PS if post surgery Rom exercises are different for each patient or there is a general set of guidelines most can or should follow.

Find out whether they want you to walk and how much. I've gotten different answers from different doctors and nurses. As of today, they want me to limit my walking to short and slow forays. But I'm feeling like I could walk miles!

Hard to refrain when you feel good....

Good luck on Thursday. I hope you have an excellent followup

Congratulations LRGO! This is wonderful news and I'm so happy for you. We all celebrate with you and hope that we'll be joining the celebration for ourselves when we also have our follow-up visits.

Hoping that everything goes smoothly with the upcoming fills. I can't comment on what the process is like as I'm not eligible for reconstruction until a year from now, I still have to do radiation hence the delay.

    Have an excellent day!

Fill advice - low and slow wins the race. Some plastic surgeons like to rush that process, particularly as they are not being paid for those visits - they are part and parcel of the surgery charge. Gradual fills allow the skin to stretch gently, much like in pregnancy. I had 25ccs weekly, but some tolerate 50-60 every other week just fine. I have seen some PS do 100-200cc fills, and I personally think that is nuts. I would also advise using an emollient cream, like coconut oil or cocoa butter, to keep the skin hydrated and supple. If it is not you can actually have stretch marks occur.

It took me about a month to be able to lay down almost flat. I did not use a recliner, but rather a load of pillows on my regular bed. I had a sensation of pressure if I tried to lay flat.

Does anyone out there have advice for weathering the fill process?

So glad you are doing so well. Life has been crazy since we got back from Vegas. I took either a pain pill, muscle relaxer or OTC pill before the fills. Depending on who was driving. But, most times, I really didn't need it before but after. It was very weird to watch them fill it up. The PS uses a magnet to find the spot where they fill your TE. And they start to magically inflate them with an IV bag full of saline. You can ask them not to fill them too much. Mine was in a bit of a rush. And wanted to do 100-150cc a go. That was hard for me because I had super strong pecs. We had to do less. She wasn't so happy about that. And now we have broken up. My my foobs do look pretty good overall, or so I am told. I still think she was a dope making me wait 6 weeks to do ROM exercises. But it's irrelevant now.

Ask about scar cream and when you can use it. What kind they suggest. Scar massage. I am sure I have the answers to those questions in my phone but each doctor is so individual. I went to go see my dermatologist too. Only because I adore her. And we have a much more established relationship. And her mom is my kids pediatrician. And her dad is my mom's gastro (colon cancer.)

So glad you are doing so well!! xoxox

Did you hear a time frame on when we might be able to?

Georgia, one PT I saw, at about 2.5 months had me laying down flat a little bit at a time every day. But I had my ROM issues by then. I could walk anywhere though. I got a little winded initially but last summer was so hot and gross. But I would just do a bit more and more every day. And hydrate.

I also remember feeling the cold water going down my chest when I drank it. Other women I knew said they felt that too. So weird!! Things you just don't expect!! And things my mom didn't tell me but her surgery was in the 70s. I guess I can't expect her to remember everything! :)

Hope your kitties are taking good care of you!!

Thanks so much, katykids!! And wow I have not had that sensation-of feeling the cold water go down when drinking it-that would be very strange! It doesn't bother me to lay more flat in the recliner-is that bad?

Thanks SpecialK! Wow that would stink of the PS is filling it extra due to not getting paid at those visits. Wow! She said she put 100 cc in me at the time of TE placement. Is that too much
