DIEP 2015

Scwilly so glad to hear your pleased with results! It can be such a long road but I'm still amazed at what they can do. I've intentionally lost weight since my surgery last year and find that I've developed an area needing some filling, hopefully the fat grafting will work. I'm having surgery the beginning of July and hopefully visiting my daughter in Vancouver the beginning of August. Hope I'll feel well enough for flying and wearing a binder.
I had my mammogram and ultrasound today to check the lump and pain I've been experiencing and I'm thrilled to say that nothing was found! I'm assuming that it is fat necrosis, but the radiologist told me he couldn't find a thing. Yahoo!

This great news slv58 your mammo and US were clear. I hate this lingering fear we have.
I had waited almost a year for my second stage as I wanted to loose weight. No success though - and I'm glad I have taken the plunge. I feel so much better getting nearer to even sizes. I feel less tired this morning so far. We have a house guest this evening so that will be todays 'kick up the bum' I need to get moving and clean up the house. My hubby always say we get a sparkling house and great food when we have visitors!

Hello. ..I hope I'm posting correctly. I really need some advice from anyone who has had Diep reconstruction. I was diagnosed over 2 years ago and to date have had 1 breast removed followed by chemo and radiation. I am now sceduled to have my other breast removed (by choice) and Diep reconstruction in a few weeks. The question I have is how soon will I feel well enough to travel..by travel i mean fly. I have been invited on a trip exactly 4 weeks after my surgery and their is no negotiation on the date...it's a once in a life time opportunity! I know my doctor will say no so I'm looking for honest opinions from those who have been through the recovery process...please help.

Sofiasmama, first, welcome to our community. We are sorry to hear that you are going to have more surgery. You may find some helpful information on DIEP Flap Reconstruction: What to Expect. On this page we explain anticipated healing times. Keep us posted!

Sofiasmama, you will still be very tired at four weeks out. You should no longer have drains, which will be a big relief. I think you can travel as long as you plan to rest a lot and not overdo it. I still needed a big nap during the day at 4 weeks and did not feel comfortable lifting much weight. If you will have a relaxed schedule, help carrying things, and time to rest, you should be able to manage.

Sofiasmama, I had exactly the same as you, a previous UMX and an second Mastectomy at the time of my DIEP operation. I echo what LAStar has said. We are all different so it is difficult to know how you will be. That tiredness is so hard to avoid and you should make sure you respect this. The first two weeks will be a blur, but one you get those pesky drains removed you will feel better, as you probably remember from your mx. Make sure you look after all incisions. I paid too little attention to one of my scars, because I had no feeling there and missed it wasn't healing as it should. Avoid any lifting and stretching. If you have little ones then this will be difficult, but you in particular don't want to have any setbacks. Set up some help for you in those 4 weeks. I had my sister then my in-laws come over form the UK (I'm a British expat) for the first two weeks to keep the house running and fed. I really hope you recover well and have a wonderful holiday. I am absolutely delighted I have had my reconstruction surgery.

I am waiting on a date from my PS to,have my DIEP in June. I am very scared. I do have a question for you ladies...didn't your surgeries bring on anyo lymphedema? I have been so lucky since my BMX. 2 years ago, I have not had it, although they tookout 27 nodes. Still it is a concern
-
I had stage-0 LE after my BMX. My arm would get sore, and the swelling was measurable but not visibly noticeable. My recent DIEP did stir it back up for a few weeks, but I haven't had any trouble in nearly a year now. I'm careful to wear my sleeve when I fly or lift.

Hi there,
Does anyone know a plastic surgeon in Calgary that does the DIEP flap?
Thanks so much!Eva
