I had a BMX with only one breast affected. There were several reasons why I made this decision. One was due to difficult screening. I have dense breasts and my tumor was only picked up on a MRI. The other reason was for symmetry .Another reason was because I knew I would refuse chemo and anti hormone treatment so I wanted to get the most aggressive surgery. Of course I miss my own breast but have zero regrets about the BMX. Good luck.....

I did BMX with cancer in only 1 breast because of the genetic risks (BRCA2+). Dtad, I did not know that mastectomy can eliminate the need for chemo, do you mind explaining this? Thank you.

reckless....So sorry BMX does NOT eliminate the need for chemo. I just knew I wouldn't agree to chemo or anti hormone therapy so I wanted to go with the most aggressive surgery. As it turned out my docs didn't recommend chemo but did recommend anti hormone treatment which I have so far refused. Im doing other natural things to lower my estrogen levels. Sorry if I confused you!

I chose only one side since my Onco score was low and escaped chemo but did (and am in) hormonal treatment. I wanted one side to be "me" at least. mentally for me it was easier.
