I was just going to celebrate 5 years cancer free. Because of 3 cousins diagnosed with cancer this past year, I decided to go for genetic testing. I found out I have the CHEK2 mutation. I was recommended for a breast MRI. I had the MRI and Mammo done this week, the mammo was good. My oncologist was happy.

Then the phone call, I need to have biopsy on both breasts because of MRI findings. Here is the summaryreport:

LEFT BREAST: BI-RADS Category 4B: Suspicious abnormality

(intermediate suspicion).

5 mm enhancing mass in the upper inner breast. MRI-guided core

biopsy is recommended.

RIGHT BREAST: BI-RADS Category 4B: Suspicious abnormality

(intermediate suspicion).

8 mm non-mass enhancement in the lower outer breast. MRI-guided

core biopsy is recommended.

Any thoughts?

Lesley, sorry, I know how unnerving it is to receive those phone calls. The last time I got one, I was also rated (if that's the right term) BI-RADS 4. Everything turned out to be fine, and I've decided not to worry about anything less than BI-RADS 5 from now on.

I think these biopsies are often called for out of an abundance of caution. Enjoy whatever pleasant relaxant they give you for the procedure!--and really, let's all be thankful that this technology exists to catch potential problems. I can live with a few false positives for the sake of some peace of mind.

Thank you for your kind reply. I am going into this positive. I have already had one biopsy in my non-diagnosed breast, which was benign. Just worried because it is in both breasts, and my breasts are dense. Oh well, not much I can do here. Good thing is that after the biopsy, I am having breakfast with my step-son. So looking forward to time with him.

lesley...sorry you are going through this but...Im glad you had a MRI since you have dense breasts. Keep in mind that there are many false positives on MRIs. I had 5 suspicious areas show up and only one was malignant. The odds are on your side. Good luck and keep us posted...

I was just told I need biopsy on both breasts. The radiologist did say she feels it’s a very low suspicion of cancer. She mentioned cystic changes or fibrodenoma . I’m so scared 44 years old. Very dense breast
