Tamoxifen and Uterine Polyps
I've been on Tamoxifen for over 3 years and after my yearly Transvaginal Ultrasound besides fibroids there is a polyp in my uterus. My Dr. thinks it should be removed by a D&C. Has anyone experienced this lately, and what was involved and the outcome after the procedure....Not sure if this is caused by Tamoxifen, but possibly. Thanks

Yup - had it, caused by Tamoxifen. Had the D&C and they were removed. Outcome - last two OBGYN visits showed no polyps - however, I stopped taking Tamoxifen.

Thanks for responding, I have my surgery June 3rd...hopefully no cancer and just an inconvenience.

Hi there, yes I just had this procedure week before last. I have been on Tamoxifen for about one year and started light bleeding. They did an ultrasound and saw something, had D&C and large polyp removed, just waiting for results. However they said it didn't look sinister. I believe this is quite common for those on Tamoxifen. I am still on it but would like a hysterectomy. Waiting to hear what they recommend. Good luck to you.

Me too. It was a pain because it kept bleeding lightly for months.I had a D&C and an ooph at the same time. I wasn't that concerned since uterine cancer is not that common, and often times curable with a hysterectomy.

I took Tamoxifen for over 2 years before switching to Arimidex. After one month on Arimidex, I got what I thought was my period. First time in three years! Maybe it was just bleeding and not a period, idk. Anyway, went to gyn for bloodwork and ultrasound. Bloodwork shows I am, in fact, in menopause (age 48 so chemo induced) and my endometrium is thickened plus I have a possible polyp. They want me to do a biopsy next week. Of course I'm scared because last time I had a biopsy, I was told I had cancer and started this whole odyssey. Thoughts? How bad is this?

Maureen- I think that is a pretty common side effect of Tamoxifen. I bled after I started Femara for a few months. My gyn felt my body was still under the spell of Tamoxifen and told me to come back in two months if it didn't stop. She was right and it did stop. I'm certainly no doctor, but I felt like the thickening had to purge itself somehow, and it did that by bleeding out.
I don't think this is the same thing AT ALL as the breast biopsy. Hang in there!
