PBMX - April 20... help me prepare!

I'm on the mend. I have a pretty deep cough so I'm really glad not to be all stitched up right now! As disappointing as it is, it was the right decision.
Your trip to the beach inspired me and my husband to take this change of plans and spend a weekend at the beach ourselves. My surgery date has not been decided yet. Likely to be in late May or even in June depending on schedules. I wont know for sure till next week. So weekend after this, we will get a really swank room at a resort in Galveston, do a romantic and carefree weekend walking on the shore and getting lost in each others arms.
I hope you have a GLORIOUS time! Take lots of pictures! Wear something that makes you feel beautiful and laugh till you can't breathe!
The memories you create this weekend are just the beginning of a new lifetime of wonderful memories. Enjoy every minute!
-
Good luck Georgia!! Keeping you in my thoughts!
-
LRG, I know you are ready but I do believe these things happen for a reason. Some stuff came up in my life with my son and mom and I didn't delay my surgery. I think I should have. Maybe that's why I tensed up my shoulders so much...IDK.
In the meantime, enjoy your time with your husband. I am going away with mine next weekend. Vegas. He has a conference, so we are taking the first few days for ourselves. I have never been. Not my first choice. But the room rate is good and his flight is paid for.
Hugs to you!!

safe travels Katykids! Vegas can be fun if you limit how much you are willing to pay for a fun time gambling. Think of it like a trip to Disneyland. You can pay as much as you like to have a good time. Just keep an eye on your budget. The shows are glamorous, you can dress up and play the part of high rollers without actually spending that much if you choose. It is a great place to people watch too.
I went there as a poor grad student. Allowed myself a very modest budget to play, and spent an entire day being entertained. Well worth the experience. The food was great and when we ran out of spending (aka lost our budget) we wandered through casino after casino, admiring the lights and sights. Have Fun!
-
katykids-Thank you so much! Enjoy your time in Vegas! I bet it would be fun to people watch there!
Thanks LRGO! The first day here was awesome. I'm exhausted but am so happy. We walked so much on the beach and to shops when at home I only walked down the street twice!! I'm going to be so sore but plan on resting on the beach all day tomorrow!
Aww that is so awesome!! I'm so glad you are taking a vacation! I love how romantic you sound. I am definitely getting lost in my hubby's arms here! I see that we both are just more grateful and soaking up each minute since the diagnosis. I feel like I am in Heaven here! I'm so excited for your trip coming up and am glad you are on the mend! Everything happens for a reason!
Xoxo

Surgery is rescheduled for May 4th. One week to go!
How was the weekend Georgia?
-
Thank you both and glad you both had good weekends! May 4...wow! That is just a week away. Don't let anyone sneeze on you okay LRG!!
Keep up on that Vitamin C.
-
Thanks Katy!
Yayyyy LRGO!! Awesome!! Your surgery is one day before mine so I will still get to learn how it was from you!! So glad it wasn't too far away! So glad you get to go away this weekend! How do you feel?
Omgosh the vacation was AMAZING!! We needed it SO bad!! And it was the perfect thing to do between chemo and surgery! I am wiped out from walking everywhere but it was sooo good for my soul!! And for my poor hubby who has kept the house and everything with the kids together!
How do you post photos on here? I will post some! We had a dolphin tour where we saw two baby dolphins and their parents! (Didn't catch the babies on film), delicious food, shopping, relaxing, awesome beach time except I got sunburned despite lots of SPF, and shark tooth hunting on the last day! Perfect because we went sharks tooth hunting on our first date almost 10 years ago!
-
Fabulous! So glad you had so much fun! My hubby and I are headed to a beach resort this weekend. Walking on the beach. Romantic dinner, wonderful entertainment plans. Cant wait. I may not be on line after the surgery in time to let you know how I'm doing before you head in so I'll wish you all the best luck now! I expect to be in the hospital for one to two days. Then home recuperating. Starting life with the LOWEST breast cancer risk of my life!!! Doesn't get much better than that!
I'm feelinguch better now BTW. Thanks for asking!

Amen to that LRGO! Oh duh, I wasn't really thinking. But regardless I do find comfort that we will be doing this at almost the same time. We are not alone! We will heal together! We can be our healing support group!
I'm so happy you get to go away and do all of those spectacular things! So good for the soul and for the marriage! Enjoy every second of it!
So glad you are better! I will be thinking of you!
Georgia 😊 Xoxox

Thanks katykids. Safe travels! I hope you are traveling for fun. I'm really looking forward to being rebuilt and fully functioning again after it is all over. Of course I'd rather not have to go through all of this but am glad I have the option to do this preventatively. I'm mentally as ready as I can be. Thanks to everyone for the emotional support. This community really does help me adjust to my path and new normal.
-
my hubby and I had a wonderful romantic weekend! Nice memories to treasure for the next year while i walk the recovery and reconstruction path! My rescheduled surgery is on Wed this week. Just a few more days! Whew! The anticipation for this is really not fun! Can't think of anything but worrying about the procedure now! Ready to get on with this and stop worrying about the "what if's". Wish me luck!

Georgia and LRGO best of luck this week with your surgeries. Will be thinking about you both! You will be back to unloading those dishwashers in no time. Trust me. But milk it as long as you can!!
-
thanks for tge encouraging words Merit!
-
LOL thanks so much, Merit! Haha great idea! 😊
LRGO I am soooo happy you and your husband had such a wonderful weekend! I know it was just what you needed!
I share your worries, I'm quite terrified, really. Once it is over I know we have more mountains to climb and a different body to deal with but I will be relieved when the procedure is over
Good luck on your surgery! I am praying and thinking about you!
-
LRGO and Georgia, sending warm gentle hugs to you. My PBMX was a few days before Thanksgiving last fall and i was actually feeling well enough to join the extended family at the dinner table. Pretty unique excuse to get out of helping with cooking etc
pleasr don't worry about surgery. You will wake up in recovery with your chest tightly bandaged and will feel as if a huge burden has been lifted! It is over! Life can begin again. In my case it was preventative and i knew i would not have to experience bc like my 2 sisters did. I wish you speedy recoveries. The first 24 hours are the hardest trying to shake off the anesthesia. Pain was easily managed with Advil in my case. Even the TEs were tolerable and each day is better than the previous one. Enjoy resting and letting others take care of you, and remeber... no using your arms if you can help it. I will keep you in my prayers. See you on the other side ! Diane

thanks for the encouragement new-me. And Georgia - I'm terrified too! I'm dreading this journey but know it is the correct choice. When facing a difficult set of options, I always charge in and confront the situation with as much courage as I can muster.
Right now I'm reminded of the time when I was about 6 years old, I was sitting on the ground, playing in our yard and a large stray dog charged me - barking . I had nothing but a twig in my hand but I stood up, swatted at the dog and yelling, charged back at the aggressor. The dog was so startled by my actions that it stopped its attack, it's eyes got big and it turned and fled. I've never forgotten that instinctive response and valuable lesson.
I'm standing here now, twig in hand, yelling at this aggressor too! I'm charging forward tomorrow, and I'm going to chase this beast away as well!. But what is different now is I'm no longer alone. We are not alone! We are doing this together, and we are accompanied by our teams of surgeons, loving families, and newfound friends and BC sisters and brothers.
You all are in my thoughts and prayers and I am inspired by your support and solidarity. Let's run screaming at this and chase away our fears as we emerge, victorious on the other side, cured of this disease and no longer afraid. Our hearts will be pounding, and we will probably be shaking for a while but we will win! And we will be stronger! Grab a twig and stand with me! Scream or sing as loud as needed to frighten away your fears!.
-
LRGO / screams with twig lol
You will be fine with an attitude like that!
-
I'm planning on being a Fabulous 80 year old with 20 year old foobs! Who could ask for more?
-
LOL LRGO!!! LOVE IT ALL! The fierce, feisty little 6 year old you were! 😀 And you are the same now! I love your strength and your attitude! You truly inspire me, lovey! And yes 80 years old with 20 year old boobs!! Perfect!!
Hope I am not too late to wish you well for what now is today! Will be thinking of you all day and praying for you!!
New_me thank you so much for helping to alleviate our fears. Your words and encouragement mean more than you know!
Twig in hand and preparing to scream, 😳😉
Georgia 💗💜
-
you go girl! I'm headed to bed now and ready to sleep. Good luck with your surgery too! I'll stand next to you and scream with you. Together we will chase away the beast!
Here we GO!
-
new me - thank you for your words. I have gained much strength from your words and the words of others who have gone before me on this path. Thanks so much to everyone for their support. You all are truly amazing!
-
AMEN my friend LRGO!! Thank you so much! Together we got this! Let's go!!
Hugs, prayers and love!!
-
It's over! I'm resting well now, keeping pain in check with meds and SO HAPPY to be on the other side of this first step. Thanks to everyone who may be following my journey. For those of you who are preparing to take this plunge! I can honestly say that (granted its only 9 hours after I awoke and I'm on pain meds) waiting to do this was much more stressful than actually doing it.
Now I'm like a caterpillar in a cocoon. The transformation to becoming a butterfly is underway!
I can't wait to see what I will become!
Hang in there "ladies in waiting" there is life on the other side!
-
screams with twig . ..
so happy to see your post and that you had a good surgery. I told you it would feel like a burden had been lifted. There may be a few weepy rough patches when you stop and realize your breasts are gone but if you accept it and let the feelings just go through you and out the back and keep looking forward you will be on the way to your nsew you. Yes you are as a caterpillar preparing to transform. There is a real beauty in the process if you let yourself experience all the feelings that flow through you. And above all know you made the right decision and never look back. Breast cancer will not claim you as a victim. By undergoing the prophylactic mastectomy we took a stand against bc and showed we are more powerful and we refuse to wait for it to show up. My sister never knew she was brca2+ and her bc came back over and over until it killed her. My second sister was diagnosed 7 months ago and found out she is brca2+ and has a very aggressive bc. Praying it was found in time. I tested brca2+ right after she did and i wasted no time getting my medical team together. I have no regrets and feel blessed that i had a choice. My mother carries the brca2 mutation but bc has not found her yet. She is 90 and healthy.Love and hugs ... Diane

lol new_me re: screams with twig! Thank you always for your wonderful insight and strength! I'm so glad you all took the bull by the horns before it took you! You are warriors!
I am so happy you are doing so well LRGO and thank you so much for the report! It certainly encourages me! I love the butterfly analogy! You are beautiful at every stage, especially inside!
With thy twig as our scepter, I shall scream with victory on the morrow!! Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee!!
I love you all!💗
