badger, I'm game to try the 5K if others want to join in.

Rode my bike yesterday but got a late start so did not take part in the masters tennis matches. Did promise one of the organizers that I would join them next week. Also going to join the bike club for their rides. Can ease into both since will have guests here from next Thursday for about 10 days so exercise will be sporadic at best.

Leslie Sansone 4-mile walking class this morning.

Have friends (mother and daughter) graduation to attend tomorrow. They are both getting their MBA from the same college. Then lunch at a Brazilian buffet. Will try and get some exercise in afterwards to counteract all the food.

    Night sculpted friends.

Hi Lisa, great to see you. That wedding is coming up fast now! Exciting! Glad the CPAP is working so well for you.

Annie, I always think the end of the school year is so much fun too, and sort of nostalgic.

patoo, yum to the Brazilian buffet!

badger, I love to walk but not sure about doing something that contains the word 'run'! I will have to think about that one.

Instead of going to yoga, I did a toning DVD at home so I could get started on the painting earlier. Three coats of paint, and two trips each to Walmart & Menards, sorting out stuff before returning it to the linen closet (or tossing it); I finally called it a day at about 9 pm. Whew!

patoo, I've been to one of those Brazilian buffets and the key is to pace yourself! There's so many choices and you want a taste of everything. I found this today and doggone it's me. 'Night all.

Did a FIRM toning DVD and walked on the treadmill. I had hoped to walk outside but the wind is HOWLING . Off to the garage to stain some trim, the fun never ends!

No wind but cold & rain all day so been nesting. Unpacked and found homes for a half-doz boxes of clothes and tchotchkes like a sandstone sphere, a miniature kaleidoscope, a small cobalt blue cloisonné jar, and a Japanese hat doll. So much fun to unwrap mystery packages and rediscover these treasures. Forgot I had half of it so pleasant surprises abounding. Found the bases to two pretty little ceramic lamps but not the shades so will keep looking. Why buy new when I can shop in my own basement LOL. Rearranged the LR to make better use of space and an old maple secretary desk. Made enough room on basement shelves to consolidate holiday decorations. That's a good day's work.

Patoo you'll enjoy the Brazillian buffet but just pace yourself yummo.

Wonderland ouch on the poison ivy hope you are doing better, wearing gloves and bathing in calamine lotionSad

Ruth your painting adventure sounds like fun, glad you found a calmer green, I did that once with yellow it was horrible.

Lisa so good to see you here, glad the CPAP is working for you, can't believe the wedding is almost here, time sure flies.

Katcar the MRI is scary because it's the unknown, I was terrified the first time I had one but when I had one last year it was much easier, you go in on your stomach and you can look out or look down, I found that using nice deep yoga breaths really helped calm my mind, there are times when you have to hold absolutely still and then be prepared for the noise, I didn't find that too bad some people don't like it but it's just the magnet moving around, you will be fine and they give you a panic button so if you get scared they can bring you out, sending you a big Hug

Badger your concert sounds wonderful, that 5k better not be like the "little walk" Ann took us on last year Bawling

Now for the exercise, Wednesday night went to Body Pump (I'm trying to get myself nice arms for Hannahs wedding in December, so I'm really trying to up the weightlifting), Thursday went up to Kathys neighborhood and did Body Combat and did Body Combat this morning, then went out and ate a breakfast burrito so I undid any good I had done, but at least I didn't have endless mimosas like some of the people I was with did!!!!

Badger: Dailey & Vincent are coming to my county in September for a 3 day LandFest! It's on my calendar. I listened to some of their music and they're fantastic! Have fun shopping in your basement.

Sweet: Good to see you again!

Ruth: Glad you found the correct green color for your walls.

Cheryl: One mimosa is enough for me.

Walked/ran yesterday - temp around 84 and sunny. Today I also walked/ran - temp around 64 and cloudy. Love the 64!

Super excited to find this thread. I just started chemo on Wednesday and I am hoping to keep exercising the whole way through. I have 12 weeks of taxol, herceptin and perjeta (sp?) then 4 treatments, 2 weeks apart of A/C. I am the most worried about that one.

I am an avid hiker and exerciser and I know it helps so much. I have been able work out every day so far. 2 hikes and today rode the bike for 45 minutes.

My husband put a fan on my head because I am cold capping and you are not supposed to let your head get hot. It seemed to work and tomorrow we are going to get up early to do our Sunday hike.

I am a little worried about the hike because I am riding the wave right now. I feel really good most of the time but can really get slammed every once in a while. I think we are going to do something way less strenuous than we normally do. I am finding that making sure I have food helps a ton.

How many of you continued to exercise through chemo?

Welcome, Susan, glad to have you with us! I was lucky enough to keep exercising during chemo, although at a lower pace than would be 'normal' for me. Chemo hits everyone differently. Some people are truly knocked out, others don't skip a beat, and most people fall somewhere in-between. So.... listen to your body, do what you can, and know whatever you are able to do now will help you bounce back faster once you are done.

Passover ended tonight....Ate 2 donuts!! and now waiting for DD to bring me a slice of pizza...she went out with a couple gf and saved me a piece....just what I need to eat and go to bed..pizza....she should be home shortly!! I napped this afternoon, so not quite ready to go to sleep!! I'm sure I'll regret it tomorrow morning.

Lousy, lousy weather the past couple days...wet snow, but at least it didn't accumulate on the streets...Walked to my mom's again yesterday, so this has been a good walking week. She was surprised but happy to see me.

DD#1 and SIL leave tomorrow morning. Its been nice to have them here, but after 10 days, its nice to say good-bye. I'll miss my DD. Tuesday she turns 30!! So tonight we gave her her b'day present. We got her a tablet.!! How am I old enough to have a 30 year old!! My b'day is coming up in a week and then I'll have been a mother 1/2 my life!!!

DD#2 just texted that she'll be home in 2 minutes!! Sweet dreams....

Looks like a big round one coming up, Karen!

SusanBP, I exercised through chemo walking in the woods, with lots of breaks when necessary.

I've been in Fitbit Fever. I love getting the badges despite the bugs, which are annoying. Fortunately I still have my android tracker as a backup. I went to bed one night and realized I just had 500 steps to get to 30,0000 for the day. Wish I had gotten up again but was too exhausted. I also got a badge for climbing 175 floors that day. Yesterday was another 175-floor day with DD.

SusanBP....I exercised through chemo, including the six dose dense AC. True, I dialed things down a bit, but I was able to ride my bicycle 20 miles on the flats a couple of days a week. I walked a minimum of one mile per day, usually a bit more. I did my weights and crunches routine as soon as my port was removed. I didn't lose my core fitness, and think I recovered a lot faster.

Which reminds me that cycling is great for toning the upper body, especially on a road bike. I am much more sculpted now that I am doing a lot of riding again. It's just amazing how much better I look now than just a month ago.

I did 26 miles of riding yesterday PLUS 6500 steps of walking.  Off to do a Bike and Brews ride, but dropping off something in Seattle first. The ride is not very challenging, only 30 miles. It's anchored by a brewery at each end SillyHeart

I will probably add an extra 10 miles to up the exercise:microbrew quotient.

Next weekend, I will make up for this. Doing a REAL ride, my first metric century of the season with lots of hills. But today should be great fun. - Claire

hi all and welcome SusanBP. I'm a walker and was able to exercise through chemo.

Had six infusions of TC chemo three weeks apart. Felt OK the first couple days, probably the steroid buzz, crummy for three or four days, then better & better until it was time for another tx. Took anti-nausea pill like clockwork every four hours for four days (Tues-Fri) then stopped so could have the weekend for TLC. By Mon was on the mend and by Weds felt good again. Tried to walk every day, even if only to the mailbox and back, and it helped me build back up. Could not abide an empty stomach so had a regular nosh of something bland (BRAT diet = bread, rice, applesauce, toast). Gained a bunch of weight that took a few years to shed but now down to that last stubborn ten pounds I've been carrying for years.

I set a goal to walk 500 miles (based on a song I like by the Proclaimers) and started keeping track of steps with a $5 pedometer. A mental trick I used to motivate myself was to start at 500 and count down instead of starting at zero and counting up. Have now logged nearly 6K miles! (see sig line).

Still drizzling but rain should stop by the afternoon. Planning to walk over to my old house and visit with new owner, walk around the yard and point out what's growing so she can weed. Need to do some of that here. We have a big clump of goldenrod that must go as I'm very allergic to its pollen.

DH just left with the kids for the airport. It was a good visit. Sure hope their flight isn't delayed. Snow flurries again this morning. Charging my Fitbit and going to go for a walk shortly. Lots to do today. Still need to put my Passover stuff in the basement...shouldn't take too long. Want to go to Costco and get a couple things that are on sale through today. Also need to several things at the grocery store... DH wants to me to figure out what I want for my b'day...Told him maybe a watch so he told me to go look and figure it out. I think my girls have ordered me presents, but really I don't want anything. Was thinking of telling them to get me a mani/pedi. Maybe I'll tell my DH to get me that. Don't know why I'm not excited or don't really have any big desires for presents...This "0" birthday is way better than the last one 10 years ago as that is when I was going through chemo!! I was so excited to turn 50...well I did but not the way I planned!! Well...10 years later I'm here. I know I'll be pleased on the day, but no planning ahead!!!

BBL..time to get my walk in.

Very happy to report that we did one of our favorite hikes (Tilden Regional Wilderness Area - Berkeley) this morning and it went great. I made sure that I had something to eat before we left. I did get hit by a bit of cramping and nausea at the top but we started right up and it went away. It was about 4 miles with some good climbs. We also went very early as to avoid as much sun as possible.

The amazing thing is how great I feel now. I realize I am only on week one of taxol, herceptin and perjeta (weekly for 12 weeks) but I will take it.

I am finding that having food to eat is super important. You can bottom out very quickly, no?

Claire in Seattle: So wonderful to hear! Every piece of positive information that comes in is a win. :-)

HeidiHill: The woods are my sanctuary!

    Badger: Love hearing that!

Did some abs and then took a long walk on, finally, a lovely spring day. Karen, I think you get the award for the crummiest weather this winter/spring. I always tell DH to get me gift certificates to my beauty salon; since I get all my makeup, moisturizers, hair products there along with the cuts & colors......I can spend ALOT of money there FAST!

HI Susan: So glad you are here with us. Wishing you the best as you start your chemotherapy. Your hike sounds fabulous.

Thanks for all the sympathy on my poison ivy. After a steroid shot, 5 days of steroid pills, and a prescription for a medicated ointment, it is finally starting to feel better. It still looks bad and I'm sure I'll have scars from it.

Walked/ran early this afternoon. Just got in from sitting on our deck and reading a book about Walt Disney. Nice and cool outside now.

    Thank you, Wonderland!

I had a horrible case of poison oak once. Blistering all over, really nasty. I did not scar! So, hopefully you won't. What a pain. It is awful stuff.

Hi ladies, I am doing the happy danced right now because I just passed my nine year checkup with the oncologist. Which I celebrated by eating a large, juicy mushroom swiss burger and having a beer.....followed by a large cup of coffee (with cream)). I will try to burn off some of the calories at Zumba tonight; and the stay for yoga, which I will dedicate to GRATITUDE!!!! Seize the day!

Good for you! We are a few months apart in DX and I am happy for you. Mine is in June, and I am so happy to be healthy and cancer - free.

Glad you celebrated with food and a beer. I plan on having a glass of wine and feeling the grace of god!

Was wondering where you ladies are going this year? I don't post much but love reading and looking at the pictures.

    Stay well

The 2016 Road Trip is to San Antonio October 21-27. Come on along! I will re-post the information below in case anyone else missed it:

Badger's mom has a time share at the Wyndham Resorts which she very generously lets us use; so if you come your lodging will be free (although you have to be flexible about sharing a room etc. depending on how many people show up!). If this sounds interesting to you (even if you are just a 'maybe'), drop me a PM with your 'real' name & email address and we will get an email group going with more details. We don't need a firm commitment until July 1. (At which point we will want to start getting tickets for plays and/or other events that need reservations). Even if you can only come for part of the time, we would love for you to join us!

Ruth: Very encouraged by your milestone! Thanks for sharing! You deserved a burger. Funny--I also had a mushroom swiss burger on Sunday. Such a great combo of flavors. Yum.

Wonderland: Good to hear you are starting to heal from the mean poison ivy.

Karen: You and my poor grandmother! I cannot believe all the snow this year! I hope it's really nice on your birthday.

SusanBP: I love hiking in Tilden! Maybe I can join you one day? I go back to Berkeley to see my dad several times a year.

Claire: I am envious of your sculpted upper body! I like the idea of a bike and brews ride!

Back to walking--try to stay it every other day and will work up to 5-6 days per week. Going to Arlington, Tx next week and will try to stay at it while I am there.

Bike and Brews did not turn out to be quite as great as anticipated:

    1. Way too many people for narrow trails, and do I mention the tree roots?
    2. Not that fun considering the other options.
    3. Lots and lots of pollen. I like to be able to SEE where I am going, particularly at 17 mph.
    4. The longest queue ever for beer at Airways Brewing in Kent (Skyhag). Better beer at the end of the ride.
    5. I chatted up two guys in the Skyhag queue. One of them wiped out on the aforementioned tree roots. He was in a sling at the end.
    6. Tire had a flat when I took bicycle into the shop today for new gears.

Bonus though was seeing all of Boeing Field including the original building. Plus cycled by the Museum of Flight.

Will post pix from Skagit Spring Classic. Swag includes a beer glass. My boast is that I worked for the beer glass when I serve microbrew to guests.

Glad to be safe and sound. Plus fit enough for this coming weekend. Much more fun. - Claire
