So 3 months ago I found a lump in my right breast below my nipple. We had a mamagram and an ultrasounnd and they couldn't see the lump but told me everything was benign.I had a follow up apt with a surgeon for the following week. A few days after I ended up getting swelling and pain in that breast so I went to outpatients to see what was wrong the dr there gave me antibiotics fr infection and the swelling dod go down but the pain never left and has gotten worse. I have a swollen lymph node my nipple has caved in and now I have a new lump on the top part of the same breast and super itchy at night! The surgeon said breast cancer does not cause pain but she is concerned with the area of thickening and the mri can take up to 8 months. She is also very rude and arrogant. It tok her 20 days to even send the mri requisition. So I called a patient advocate but there isn't anything she can do.So yesterday I went to see my new family doctor he did an exam and he is gonna make the mri a priority and send me to a new surgeon in Halifax which is 5 hours away but I'm so happy I have seen a dr that cares.😕

So happy you found a better doc. It can make all the difference in the world. Are you from the UK? Here in the US it would be unheard of to wait 8 months for an MRI! IMO traveling to get superior medical care is a inconvenience but a must. You need to get a definitive diagnosis. Good luck and please keep us posted...

I have just been diagnosed with IDC. I have only heard this over the phone from my doctors office. My husband and I will go visit the doctor tomorrow to get more information. I know I just have to wait and see but in my head I'm thinking I want the surgery asap. Doesn't every day of waiting increase the risk of the cancer spreading. ie, if it is not in my lymph nodes yet, if i don't get surgery for a month, then it may be right?

Hi nanny goat, we are very sorry you have joined the club, and glad you found us. Your treatment team will be able to tell you more specifics about your type of cancer, and rate of growth. Hopefully they will be able to get your surgery done very soon, as we completely understand how difficult it is to wait. Keep us posted on what the doctor says!

well I have my mri July 13! I am gonna go crazy waiting that long...I just don't understand why she won't do the biopsy wheb she can feel the lump and is very concerned with the area.of thickening! She told me mri woukd be a month tops but yet it took her a month to submit the paper work! I'm so mad..I left a message for the surgeon saying I will be making s complaint. ..my new dr is trying his best to make.the mri a priority but Canada's healthcare is terrible! The surgeon called me today in a panic from my message but I'm done with her, let her panic for a month like.I have been doing!.😠😠😠 and top it all off with my husband losing his job in a few weeks! July will have been 6 months since I found the lump so annoying!

Ugh. I am so sorry you have to wait so long. I'm on two months now. It does get better over time. I told my husband last night that every moment of that time has been thinking about and researching cancer. I'm sure at some point normal will return.

I'm thinking of you. Hope you have some resolution and peace in the waiting time.

Thanks! It's so frustrating I just got my mri apt for July 13 I'm so mad I don't know how my mind can take another 2 months of waiting! I feel like 2 months can be life or death if it is cancer...By July it will have been 6 months since I found the lump. I hope you have good results as well. Please keep me informed.

Hello Capermom, I am glad you are going for further testing just to be sure but just wanted to share with you I went through something similar recently. I found a lump made an appt with dr. Started having swelling in my armpit and aching. Went for a ultrasound and mammogram and radiologist said it was benign by looking at it but would do a biopsy just to be sure. Then I started getting sharp pains in breast behind my nipple and then on side and underneath breast. Went for Biopsy and Dr said looks exactly like a Fibroadenoma. But I was still worried due to the pain and swelling. It turned out to be Benign and a Fibroadenoma like they thought and I think my own stress was causing me to have issues with my hormones and make pain worse. Try not to stress, but it's great you are being your own advocate and making sure. My Mom was diagnosed at 36, that's why they did the biopsy on mine

Wishing you the very best Capermom. Really concerns me that your surgeon says breast cancer does not cause pain. Some breast cancer patients do experience pain; some don't. Does this surgeon specialise in breast cancer surgery? Doesn't sound like she knows her stuff.

Well, I heard back from my second opinion breast surgeon. My case was presented at their weekly interdisciplinary meeting. The MRI I had a month ago does not explain the large hard area in my breast or the recent bloody discharge. So they want me to wait three months and get re-examined. More waiting.

Hi thanks ..no she doesn't specialize in breast she is just a general surgeon...I'm not sure if anyone specializes in breasts in my area..She is only 40 so I can't imagine she knows it's all yet..My collarbone is bow swollen as well as my hand and arm on same side as breast lumps. ..I'm going back to the dr tom.I can't take much more of this!
