Hyperbaric treatment? Save the nipple.

At my first post-op, which was 2 days after my nipple sparing bi-lateral mx, my PS has referred me for hyperbaric tx. I've had my consultation and am waiting to see if my insurance will cover this treatment before we begin. Both nipples had a "dusky" appearance, although one was much worse than the other. Its been 8 days since the mx and one of the nipples is now pink, but the other one is still dark red and dusky. Hopefully I will hear this week if I'll have coverage for the hyperbaric tx. Has anyone had this treatment? Was it successful? It's a huge time commitment. 10-20 treatments, with each one taking 2 hours. I am also claustrophobic, so I'm wondering if I'll be able to handle it. If I take the Ativan, I'll need a driver. I really hate the thought of disrupting my familys schedule for this if its not going to work.

Hello! I had a bilateral mastectomy last year, nipple sparing. I had hyperbaric treatments immediately after surgery. It was not fun. It bothered me that I couldn't wear any lotion, deodorant, etc at all. I was petrified that I'd catch on fire, lol. It's a very strange experience for sure. Also, your ears will "pop" during treatments and for a few weeks after treatment ends. But, it works. It is definitely worth trying. Good luck
