Still Waiting for Test Results.....

edited April 2016 in Waiting for Test Results

I am a 16 year survivor of IDC, Stage II. At my annual exam, 6 months ago, the radiologist found clusters of microcalcifications. I just had a repeat mammogram last week to check on the microcalcifications. Turns out there are more clusters and I was referred for a stereotactic biopsy. I had the biopsy last Friday and was told I'd have my result yesterday. Well, no results yesterday, so I called this morning. No results yet, but they will call me when they come in (today, I hope!).

I know that DCIS is my most likely diagnosis ---- if I have a diagnosis. And that's not bad, since it means no chemo, just more surgery. I don't know my BIRADS, so I can't figure out anything from that. I do know that I am already scheduled to see a breast surgeon next Thursday.

My question is, why am I scheduled to see a breast surgeon when the results aren't even back yet? Are they that confident that something is wrong? Or is this just a routine appointment?

I am 56 and was widowed last year. I've always been told I was high risk for a reoccurence since I had breast cancer when I was "so young." When the nurse finally calls me with my results, I'll ask why I am scheduled with a breast surgeon. In the meantime, I was just wondering what you thought......

The doctor's office called this morning and said that I'd get my results when I see my doctor (and the breast surgeon) next Thursday. Now I'm not only worried, I'm angry too! I asked the nurse if she could tell me anything and she said, No.

So, I'm stuck waiting until next Thursday.

Thats ridiculous IMO if you really want to know insist on speaking to the doc that did the biopsy. You should NOT have to wait. How about a little compassion?! Good luck and keep us posted....

I called a friend (Big Wig) at the Cancer Center. She checked my records and talked to my doctor. She told her that I would want to know the results. She called and told me that I have a re-occurrence. It's at the site of the original tumor and is invasive carcinoma. They have sent the biopsy out for tumor marking testing. That will be in by the time I see the doctors on Thursday.

So, here I go again! It's time to call my cancer insurance company and get them ready to start receiving claims.

groucho, sorry to hear that news. Good that you were persistent in getting your mammos and asking for the results. I can't believe they wanted you to wait that long....I would not be a happy camper. Best wishes moving forward.
