Five Years Since Stage 4 Diagnosis
5 years ago today was when I was told my BC had spread to my bones, only 3 weeks after original diagnosis. I am happy to report that I am currently doing very well. I ran 4 miles this morning, coached my son's junior high track team, played 4-square with my younger son, and snuggled and colored with my two girls. (My kids are 13, 7, 7, and 6).
I recently had radiation to my one spot of known cancer in my right iliac. My life isn't perfect, and I wish I didn't have to deal with all the cancer crap, but I am happy and healthy overall. I am better able to just live my life without fretting as much as I did at the beginning of all this.
These past 5 years have not been easy, but I have also been blessed with a lot of happiness along the way, and I feel very grateful for the many blessings in my wonderful life. I look forward to many healthy years ahead! Best wishes to all you brave women on this site!

Yay! Congratulations! High five for five years! I reached five years in January. Wishing you many, many more years of four square, snuggling, smiles, fun, and so much more!
-
Cheers to both of you girls!

WOOHOO for both of you! Five years is a wonderful milestone. Groovywilma, I hope you celebrated in January. If not, celebrate now. Springlakegirl, have a big party. This is indeed a good reason for one. I
dream of doing as well as you 4 years, 1 month, and 7 days from today. Not that I am counting, of course. It is so good to read posts like this. As I am sure you know, if gives us so much hope. Thank you
Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate. My heart will be right there with you.

Springlakegirl, wow oh wow, what a wonderful milestone. It makes my heart feel good that you are out and about living a full life and making the most of every day. Your choosing to use the name "Springlakegirl" always makes me smile. It is such a wonderful visual to think of a pure, clear lake springing out of some beautiful natural environment, in the middle of spring, and the term girl has carefree written all over it. That is how I see your spirit. As you say, there are and have been challenges along the way dealing with bc, but you meet them, deal with them and move forward. Many hugs for you and prayers for continued stability.
Groovywilma, what groooovy news to hear from you as well. I am happy for your milestone and send all those same hugs and prayers to you, too.

Congratulations to both of you. That is awesome that you are doing so well. Keep up the good work. Wishing you both the very best.

Congratulations! I will hit 5 years in September. It's been an experience, that's for sure. But it's the new normal.

Congratulations to both of you! Five years definitely calls for a celebration...... I'm planning on having a party... Sept of 2017! You are all invited! Although one thing this little journey that I'd rather not be on has taught me is to celebrate the little things and if at all possible, don't wait to do anything.
So happy for you!

Thanks so much for the positive responses and encouragement! I am so happy and grateful for where I am in life right now. I hope many of you are happy with where you are and how you are feeling. I sort of come off and on this site, but I wish you all the best with your treatments, how you are feeling, and with your health. Sending love!

I hope this thread stays very active and we hear from many more people celebrating 5 years and going strong. I will hit 2 years since my Stage IV diagnosis in June and so far I am responding well to treatment and have had a pretty good quality of life. But I'm always looking to hear from long term survivors to encourage me. Those thoughts of "will I still be here in 5 years" creep up on us all and it is mighty uplifting to hear from people who not only are still here but are living their lives to their fullest (whatever that may be). Thanks for the boost!
