Advice on healing after revision
Dear all,
I'm scheduled to have revision surgery this week after bmx w/ immediate implants. The implants ended up lopsided. This is to correct that and I'll be using a different type of implant on both breasts. Surgeon said he would go in through the old scars, which are under the breast. Do any of you have any recommendations for techniques to help the new incisions heal rapidly and cleanly, to recover range of motion as soon as I safely can, to reduce pain and swelling? I find that the best advice often comes from this board.
thank you.

Hi nottoday,
I don't have any advice or recommendations, I just wanted to let you know that I had a similar surgery 5 days ago (switched out my implants due to unevenness from capsular contracture) and this was nothing like the bmx with immediate implants. I never lost any range of movement in my arms and had no pain there. Just pain in the chest area but very manageable...two oxycodone per day covered it, one in the morning and once before bed. I was disappointed that I woke up with 2 drains but they haven't put out much fluid so I'm sure they'll come out at my one week check up. Best of luck to you

Hi SCMom,
Thanks for responding. I'm glad it all went well for you and very happy to hear it was nothing like the bmx with immediate implants. (Not that that wasn't survivable, just don't need to do it again!) Please check in again and let me know how the recovery is going, and if I hear any tips about healing, I'll let you know.

I would advise trying to eat 100g of protein daily, and supplementing with bromelaine (or eating a lot of pineapple), zinc, and possibly arnica. Check with your individual doc on their take on the supplements.

Will definitely load up on protein. Thank you!!

nottoday - good sources of protein are Greek yogurt, fortified cereals, leafy greens, nuts, mushrooms, and of course, fish, meats, poultry and eggs. Bromelaine is used for help with swelling and inflammation after surgery, zinc is for wound healing and immune support, and arnica is for bruising, pain and swelling. Arnica comes in a topical form, and oral form - usually arnica montana. I have swapped out one implant and didn't find the surgery too difficult - good luck!
