My DCIS has returned from three years ago. I was Diagnosed again in March with DCIS stage 0 Grade 3 triple negative. My surgery date is July 18. Now I am Having second thoughts that this may be too long to wait. Do you any information or suggestions?

All of the surgeons I have consulted with re. my DCIS treatment (and I have Grade 3, allegedly, but getting further biopsies before i agree to the MX) have said "You will not die of DCIS. There is no hurry." No reason to rush until you are comfortable with the right move. Hugs!

    Bunny1966:

While DCIS is not an emergency, there is also no reason to wait around for more than three months from initial diagnosis, absent some medical/diagnostic necessity. Assuming you have been diagnosed with apparently pure DCIS by minimally-invasive biopsy, there is still some risk of some as yet undetected invasive disease, which would alter understanding of actual risk. According to ASCO, invasive cancer is reported in ~ 10% to 20% of DCIS cases diagnosed by minimally invasive biopsy, approximately half of which are limited to "microinvasive" cancer (microinvasive tumor ≤ 1 mm).

How long was your wait between diagnosis and surgery the last time?

If you are not comfortable waiting and worrying until mid-July, please do not hesitate to request to be rescheduled to an earlier date.
