I just started my ChemoTherapy last Tuesday. the 2nd day AM I was still fine until I started getting the Neupogen shots I've bee getting really sick. I am experiencing body aches (flu like symptoms), bone and joint pains, abdominal stabbing pain (off and on) it's still tolerable pain mostly on my left side, stabbing and pressure chest pain (off and on) also it's tolerable pain right now in my left side, pressure on my ear, I m coughing, I am having a cold but my nose is also been dry/putting saline spray, headaches, itchy and tender scalp, recently I was sweating my head, neck, and upper shoulder/back then after I started having neck, left shoulder , and upper back pain. Is this a normal side effects? I am so sick every time I get the shots. I will get my 5th shot today and I am not looking forward to it.:( I will get this every cycle of Chemo for 7 days straight.

Unfortunately, that does sound pretty normal. I got the Neulasta which is just one shot but otherwise basically the same thing, and it made me feel like a bad case of the flu for several days afterward. The good news is, the first round is usually the worst. Are you taking Claritin? It seems to help, no one really knows why, but even my MO recommended it.

I read on BCO about Claritin helping with neulasta related pain and told my sister in law about it after her second round of chemo - she tried it and has been forever grateful to me - I kick myself for not having told her BEFORE her first treatment. do give it a try.

    Hi Jennie and Jelson,

I am taking Benadryl and 2 Tyleno right now. I will try the Claritin and Tyleno tomorrow. I am hoping it will work out for me. Thank you both for your response I appreciate it a lot.

I had my first "painful" neulasta effects after my last chemo because it was Taxotere this time. My MO and NP both told me to take a 24 hour clariton the night before my neulasta shot and to keep taking it for up to 5 days if needed. Also, my NP told me to get on top of any pain right away and not to let it go at all or it will only get worse. I was able to use Extra strength Tylenol amd the occasional Aleve to get by, but I do have Tylenol 3 if needed. I just have a terrible disliking to T3 or any other strong drug so I did deal with some discomfort more than necessary because I wouldn't take it. I have 2 more to go...

Good luck and stay on top of your SE and you will do much better😄
