Husband's in the Hospital Again !

My husband went to his doctor's today complaining of chest pains. He sent him to the hospital and they admitted him. His EKG looked okay but his doctor thinks he may have angina. His father died of a heart attack at age 55 and that really worries me. (He is 57.)

    Catherine: If you have chest pains, they have to admit you and make sure everything is ok. They will run blood tests the next 24 hours and they will know more then. Sorry your having to go through this right before Thanksgiving. Im at Glenbrook everyday. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Opens your eyes - bc isnt the only thing that affects young people.

    Thanks, Nicki. He's at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights and they are running more tests. He had a chemical stress test Saturday and he said that felt like a heart attack. They had to give him a shot to reduce the effects of the stress test. They are doing an angiogram today and will know more then.

    I just talked with my girlfriend, who is having the same test tomorrow, and that is EXACTLY how she described it: "Feels like I'm having a heart attack!" I hope your DH will be OK. They're pretty aggressive with guys who have chest pain.

    He had an angiogram and it showed serious blockages in three arteries. So he had angioplasty and they put in stents. They thought he might be able to come home today.

    I just got a call that there is fluid built up in the lungs and around the heart. Plus his kidneys are not working, so they are going to do another procedure to drain the fluid.

    I am very scared.

    Catherine, my sister had heart surgery in june, she had the same thing, and she is doing fine!! I know you are so very scared, but the doctors told us this was what usualy happens with this kind of surgery, please PM me if you need any advice!! sending Prayers and comfort Your way, debbyfive

    Thanks Debbiefive, I am most worried about the kidneys, plus his dad died of a heart attack at age 55, so there's probably a strong genetic component here too.

    Sweetie, don't think like that, they have so many knew ways of dealing with the heart NOW!! they used a masager(sp) on her kidney's and they started working right away, the fluid is going to make a big change in the way they work also, the fluid will come out fast with the tubes, hang in there Catherine, i am praying right now, and i know God WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM!!!!!!!!! xoxo debby

    Catherine...I to will be praying for you and your husband...I just want to share a little information, maybe to put your mind a little at ease...such as it may be...
    and sorry for the long windedness this will be...
    MY mom at 47 had her 1st heart attack....her dad passed at 49...since she's had 4 by passes and way too many stents (to open veins) to recall....well a few weeks ago she finally...oh by the way at 87...pace maker/difibulator..because her heart was only working at 10%...now as we know everyone is different...but she just started working out at the cardiac care center at the hospital...whooo hoo....I only hope that I am in suce good spirits at her age....so do take hope in this little ditty if my mom can do it ...and the new technology is so much improved that a healthy person should have a great chance....

    Dear Catherine there is no link btw your husband and his father. My grand-grandfather died at age 52 and my grandfather at 91! I have a lot of parents and friends with blocked arteries and heart attacks back in the early 90's and they are ok today. And kidney problems are treatable too. So sorry you are going through this, but i'm sure he is on good hands and everything will gonna be ok. One uncle unterwent a surgery for blocked arteries back in february, he is ok now, and he is 77. An aunt too... My father had a stroke 4 years ago and he is ok now. I think you should worry more about me... Keep strong, there are bad moments in life, but better moments are coming! Praying for your husband and you!

    All of this is probably part and parcel of his vascular problems. He has to be a very strong guy to handle this for so long. From what you say, he did NOT have a heart attack. That means that he is light-years ahead of most other men. He is a really lucky guy.

    Medicine has come a LONG way since the 70's, or 80's, or even..... He'll be fine. You just have to make sure that you'll be fine too. Let the doctors take care of him; YOU need to take care of YOU.

    Oh Catherine: I pass by NWCH every day on my way home from work. Of course there is some fluid build up. They did an angioplasty and stents. Easier procedure than open heart surgery but just as serious. Acute renal insufficiency. Thats what they call it. The kidneys are also responding and trying to compensate. I would be really scared too. But we are here for you. And just pm me. I can stop by NWCH tomorrow if you want.

    Like fancy said. The good news is there was no heart damage! And thats very important. So hang in there, we are here for you.

    Catherine, I don't have any great words of wisdom as I am not familiar with all the current technology dealing with the heart. Just wanted you to know I will be thinking of you and your husband and keeping my fingers crossed he is back to his old self before you know it!

    Thank you to everyone for the great support. It means a lot to me. I saw a sign in the hospital that Northwest Community Hospital is #1 in the state of Illinois for Cardiac care. I wasn't aware of that and it was reassuring to see that. One of my coworkers told me that it had a great heart program.

    Jim is currently in the critical care unit. They drained the fluid around his heart and from his lungs yesterday morning. He was put on insulin, which he's never needed before.

    My son and I didn't stay too long as he was very weak and needed his rest.

    Jim phoned this morning and said he felt a little better today. His doctors may release him on Friday, but that's not definite yet. My son picked up his car yesterday at the hospital and drove that home for him, so that's also a relief. I was worried it would be towed.

    Jim's boss phoned me today and was very nice. He told me, "Don't worry about a thing. Jim has vacation days plus "other personal days" (OPD) that he has accumulated. Plus he has disability insurance too."

    That was also a great relief as he's only been with this company since January 30, 2006. It was very nice of his boss to call to reassure me about financial matters as well as to offer moral support. Plus he said his father had heart problems so he's aware that they need to take things easy for a while.

    I feel better than I did yesterday. Thanks again for all the good wishes and prayers. I appreciate them more than you can ever know.

    I'm so sorry your family is going through this right now. I think it's great that the docs are even talking about releasing him on Friday, that seems very positive. Also wonderful that your husband's boss has reacted in a supportive way. You shouldn't have to think about anything except him getting better.

    Please know I'll be thinking about you and praying for you and your family.

    Hi everyone, Jim was released on Thanksgiving morning, so that was a big relief. He's staying home today as he has to see his doctor. He may need to start insulin for his diabetes, but other than that, he's doing okay.
