    Thank you friends! I have a woman who does painting at my house (trim, indoors, etc.) and when she was here two summers ago to do a job for me, she was asking for some clippings of my various cactus. In return, she brought me all these iris bulbs. I planted them that fall and last year they had leaves but no flowers. I had some of those this year, but this one has flowers. I love the periwinkle color with the soft yellow.

    Got lots more starting to bloom but will wait until I can get some better photo opps. We have had a lot of rain in the past week (which has been very needed) and it has really helped things to further come out.

    It did get cold last weekend into monday. We had some snow here in the mountains as well as a frost in the valley. I kept some things covered and all is well there. We should be moving past frost potential by this weekend. I am ready to buy more flowers!

    The hyacinths are not mine. My husband and I went downtown to eat and there they were. The phlox are mine. I just wish they bloomed all summer because they are so gorgeous.

    The creeping phlox are something I love, my mom always grew them on a small slope in the yard. I've tried numerous times planting them at my house but they never took. Last fall, we moved my MIL (87) from her house out in the country to an apt across the street from us and she gave me a tiny start of creeping phlox from her country yard. I put it in a flower bed close to the back porch, and there are several blooms on it now. Who knows, maybe if I keep an eye on it, it will stick around for more than a year

    Twohobbies - wow!

    The phlox are so pretty and I was just thinking today as I brought laundry in off the line how this fall I will need to plant a lot more hyacinths around my back door as I was being teased by the beautiful fragrance from just a couple of blooms.

    Lovely irises Jazzy. Dh and I planted three brown fig trees today. They are about 2.5 feet at the moment but apparently get as tall as 25 feet. Will have to see how fast they grow.

    I also noticed that the bees or something have cross-pollinated my little white rose bush, which has been struggling for years. This year the bush is growing red/pink buds for the first time ever. On the other hand it has suddenly tripled in size and looks very healthy. Mother nature at work.

    Yay for bees, Scottie. It's interesting to see isn't it. I have some tulips that I swear turned from red to orange and I was wondering yesterday if that came from being near yellow daffodils or some other environmental change. I have some pink tulips and red ones. The pink ones bloom later so I don't know how they turned orange except pollen from something else.

    JBeans same thought here. I have five and I'd love a mass of them like this, or mixed with tulips. I think I could gather all of my scattered tulips, daffodills and hyachinth into a bed and have a similar great display. I just never want to dig them up and move them in the fall. By that time I think other chores take precedent

    Divine my phlox are not in particularly good soil but do have full sun, late afternoon shade and you can see the downspout there, so fairly moist? but I really don't water them if it doesn't rain.

    P.S. Every time I see bluebonnet photos I want to move to Texas! I've never seen them in person. That's on my bucket list. So beautiful.

    have not had time or energy to do much this year but some cleanup but nature has a way of making things right. If it weren't for the electrical wires running from the pole to my roof I could almost imagine being in Italy sitting in my back yard!

    DH recovering from car accident and going back to work tomorrow. It's been a stressful week. Happy Sunday

    Balthus- your yard is SPECTACULAR! You are right about it almost looking like Italy. I would be in that backyard all the time if I lived there!

    One day at the farmer's market a guy wanted to sell us a paper bag of daffodils for $5. So we bought the bag and planted them in the front yard. The next spring there were hyacinths everywhere and just a few daffodils. He could have charged more if he'd known.

    Wren lol. I could use some hyacinth in my yard. I like to keep adding different plants. Balthus. . .Lovely yard. I have so many spaces that I need to fill - lots of shaded areas with just pinestraw and another area with too many tree roots. I really need to have a large load of fill dirt brought in for a berm over the roots. Then I could have a raised shade garden, maybe even an evening garden. Always wanted one of those.

    Scottie, Putting too much dirt on top of tree roots can kill the tree. Check with a tree expert before you do that. I like container gardens because they're so much easier to take care of. Could you hang baskets from the tree limbs?

    Good afternoon friends- I am at work but wanted to share these flowers with you I took pics of this morning. My red claret cup is finally doing it's thang, and also took a trip to Home Depot and came away with this cool succulent (bottom pic) called a rock purlane that has the most amazing flowers.

    Balthus- I heard that on the Today show as I am getting ready for work. Be careful. We had some serious high winds move through here yesterday and it is cold this morning! I know those cold fronts that ride up behind the warmer air are deadly for T-storms and tornadoes. Stay inside and be safe please!

    Balthus, I would be tempted to get into a basement. Mine if I had one or a public place if not. Grapefruit sized hail could be lethal if it hit you in the head.

    Balthus. . .stay safe. I heard the same weather report. That's scary. Wren. . .thanks, I will keep that in mind. The evening garden is just one of many garden dreams, although I have several places where I could plant one without bringing in dirt. A week from Saturday is our annual Master Gardener's sale. All kinds of plants for "dirt" cheap (pun intended). I got more than a dozen hostas for about $3 each last year and all have more than doubled in size. Looking forward to more hostas and whatever else Dh and I can grab in the mad dash to get our pick.

    Ha ha never heard of it. My word, I get enough scratches on me hands, arms 'n' legs from tackling the flower beds fully clothed. There's no tellin where I'd have to apply the neopsorin if I was to get out there nekked!
