Stage ll BC and adjuvent treatment with Perjeta

Hello,

my mom was diagnosed with stage ll BC (ER+, PR-, HER2+). She already had her mastectomy and will have 6 rounds of chemo and 25 rounds of radiation. The doctor will be giving her Perjeta, but from what I read about it, Perjeta is used as a neoadjuvent treatment or for metastatic BC. I do wonder if he is using it as a preventative method of treatment, but I am definitely confused as this is a fairly new drug... Has anyone had Perjeta not for metastatic BC and as an adjuvent treatment?

I have. A couple of us have posted recently about this, coincidentally both at Memorial Sloan Kettering. In both cases the perjeta has been given in conjunction with Herceptin after neoadjuvant use.

It's not a difficult drug, much easier than chemo, and since it got me to NED I cannot complain.

There are a number of members on the Triple Pos thread that had adjuvant Perjeta. It is usually a matter of insurance approval since currently Perjeta for early stage breast cancer is only FDA approved for neoadjuvent use. If her insurance will approve it, it is nice to be able to have it added as it is one more tool.

Hi daughter, I'm one that received adjuvant Perjeta. I had my UMX right before moving out of state. There were a lot of threads that talked about how good Perjeta was so I decided to ask my new MO what she thought. She agreed that it would be good to add to my Taxol and Herceptin. She submitted it to insurance and they never questioned it. I also think it would be good to have if your insurance will pay for it.

Here is an article noting the addition of pertuzumab (Perjeta) as an option under NCCN guidelines for breast cancer for certain patients in the adjuvant setting:

Thank you to everyone for the reply. I definitely felt a lot better about it... and then, my mom told me she will be receiving Herceptin instead. So now, I'm looking into Herceptin. I hate that I'm so far away. It's extremely hard for me to know what's going on.

Hello all, just wanted to say, they took Perjeta out of her treatment plan. Not sure why... Instead, she will be using herceptin along with monotaxol and carboplatin instead.

I wonder why they took out the Perjeta? I'm getting both Herceptin and Perjeta along with Taxotere and Carboplatin (TCHP). I'm non-metatastic, non-recurent and post surgery. My insurance company initially denied the perjeta, but my doc felt strongly about and and got them to approve. Best of luck to your mom!
