A mother's worry for her 15yr old daughter diagnosis.......

Hello, my name is Sandra, and my 15yr old daughter was diagnois with dense grandular tissue of her left breast. Her breast is abnormal, bigger than the right breast, and extremely painful to the touch. She is a C-cup on left and an A-cup of the right breast. It bothers her emoitionally and cancer runs on both my side and her father's side of the family. Her pediatric doctor sent us to two ultrasounds only which to the doctors that did them say they are normal. Her pediatric doctor also wanted a mammogram done as well. Unfortunately, where I live they refused test due to the radiation and her age. Mind you that no blood work as been done yet during this process. We are following up with her pediatric this week. I am picking up all her medical records as well to see the size of the tissue.

On the website it said, cancer could be any age, that an MRI would be best exam for patients with dense tissue of the breast, and a patient with dense tissue have a 6 greater chance of developing breast cancer no matter what age. The doctors tell me not to worry but we are very concern!!!! Wouldn't you be? How do I get them to be concerned and take it as seriously as we do? Any suggestions? Thank you....

    I'm so sorry your daughter and your family are dealing with this. I have kids as well and it is hard to wait and wonder and it is easy to think the worst. I don't have any information about breast cancer at such a young age but I would think it would be very unlikely. It sounds like you are doing the right thing to continue to work with your doctors to get to the root of the problem. You mentioned having breast cancer on both sides of the family. Not all breast cancer has a genetic factor. Were the women diagnosed under 50? Any men with breast cancer? There are other conditions that can cause pain and swelling, mastisis, cysts, fibroadenosis. Are they planning to do blood work? You could always ask for a referral to a breast specialist.

    I know it is easier said than done but try not to jump to cancer. I have BRCA2+ mutation and my mother had breast cancer at 44. I didn't get cancer until I was 37 and the current recommendations are to have a woman get mammograms 10 years before her mother's cancer diagnosis. I had no issues as a teenager.
