January 2016 Chemo!

I seem to have the watery eyes mostly in the morning for about the first hour after I wake up (which includes walking the dog). Intuitively I wouldn't have tried that so I'll be interested o learn if it makes a difference for you or not.
-
Cuddly dogs? Has anyone noticed that your dog has been particularly cuddly and wanting to be closer to you during treatment? Mine (who is a very active doggie) just seems to be glued to my side.
-
JSC28 - I keep telling people "it's allergies" cause I swear there's this look of concern when I'm out in public. Watery eyes all the time, my MO said there's nothing I can do about it so if you find it helps, I want to know too!
-
My girlfriend that had cancer last year is a nurse. She had extremely watery eyes, so much that it was interfering with her job. She had plugs put in her tear ducts. Her eye doc told her she couldn't wear contact lenses with plugs in, but she did anyway.
-
Thanks Zinny for the tip, going to ask about it this week. Up until yesterday (Day 10) did that burning subside, I was taking Zantac which usually does the trick but the AC really did a number on me gastronomically last week. I'd get SO MUCH DONE while still buzzing from the steroids on Taxol.
Mouth sores have started these last few days, I just got the Prevention mouthwash, let's see how that works. Plan on asking about that too.
Frill you are so good at the scarves, you look wonderful.
-
Sue1966. I am also a new member and poster here. I am through AC and about to do my #4 Taxol (w/Carboplatin). I too had the rash on my arms. First on one, went away, the came back on both worse. I used Cortizone and it worked.
-
I had eye issues for several weeks with Taxol and the doctor acted like I was fruity. It's subsided, though.
Jill: Oh, you made me feel a lot better. I just keep telling myself - it's only 4 times, it's only 4 times - but if it's so terrible that I can only do it once every three weeks, that weirds me out. The tireds I'm used to, except for the incredible randomness. I thought about recording food, exercise, vitamin intake, blah blah blah to find a correspondence and was like NOOOO MORE OCD. HA!
It's so hard to believe this week is my last week of good ole Taxol. Bye, old friend. See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya. Thanks for the whole cancer cell killing business. You better have done your job!
-
Woop Woop Frill. ..last week for you of Taxol!! What kind of eye issues did you have? I have off and on blurriness....similar or the watery others mention above? You like Jill can rock scarves and hats.
-
DFWFlygirl: I have a little bit of both - I thought the blurriness was just my contacts or something, but after reading all of y'alls comments I was like HEY! My eye issues were - I had the watery eyes a couple of weeks, feeling like I had an eye infection for a couple of days before chemo, then it would clear up at chemo. I even have a pic of me on chemo day and my left eye is super red. It hasn't happened the last several weeks, though, but I've been on antibiotics because of cellulitis issue. There is NO infection of any kind in me right now.
Thank you! I just got a picture of a wig I'm having styled from the hair person. So pretty! Maybe I"ll actually wear it!!!!!
-
I had eye issues while having chemo too. In fact I didn't drive for several weeks until it settled. Just didn't think I was safe behind the wheel.
Lovely to see you posting Frill. Hugs.
-
Welcome Milwmama, that's quite a cocktail you're getting. How are you feeling?
Frill--congrats on getting through the Taxol!
Just got back from the hospital and told them I just couldn't hack it for 6 more weeks of this insane schedule they have me on (weekly THP and 2 more visits each week for neupogen injections). My MO was great and agreed this was too much for a chemo patient and my body also needs more time to recover. She made my day: cancelled my chemo for this week and switched me to dose-dense every 3 weeks instead of weekly. Means I only have to do 2 more chemos and now I only have to go to the hospital twice in the next 6 weeks instead of 18 times. I am so relieved!
-
I have had watery eyes on and off! No problems wearing my contacts though, so that's good. No vision problems either.
Frill I was the same going into taxotore, scared after getting used to FEC and knowing what to expect and how to manage it. Unfortunately I do find it harder than FEC, but still it's not ridiculous and by day 7 or so I'm pretty OK (although my first cycle sucked because on day nine I got a horrible cold that lasted pretty well until the next one. This time I'm on day 13 now and pretty well "normal". I keep a chemo journal, not for my whole cycle, because I'm on three weeks cycles, but for the first week or so until I'm almost SE free. That way when I go to the next cycle, I can doublecheck and see when things happened and when they'll pass!
I wear scarves sometimes, but nothing like what you do, I just wrap around my head and tie on the side, to try to make a ponytail effect.
Got a new wig today! Also a new mug!
-
Jill-..and your back with a great wig....it looks amazing on you. (Perfect for a mermaid). Thanks Frill for sharing your experience on the eye SE's.
Maya sound and reasonable MO that has made your treatment plan sane and tolerable
Now of I could shake this cough and cold the universe would be grand:))
-
Maya I missed that somehow. Great news!! So glad you spoke up and your oncologist came up with a more reasonable plan!!
-
Very cute wig, Jill, though you look great without hair too!
Speaking of hair, I'm trying not to scrutinize my scalp since it's still probably a week or two early for regrowth. It's been depressing to realize that my lashes and brows will probably check out in a few weeks. I find that so weird that it takes so long PFC.
-
Yes, in addition to water eyes, my vision seems a little "off". It's OK, but I feel like I need to get my eyes checked. But I asked my MO and she said wait until after chemo b/c taxotere does affect vision.
And yes to the crazy schedule of losing eyebrows and eyelashes! Mine really didn't start looking bad until just after #4. I just had #5 last week and they are VERY thin. Has anyone tried false eyelashes? Is it possible if there are no lashes left to attach to? Has anyone tried "fiber lashes"? I have been using Latisse and maybe it's helped but they are still going away.
-
Thanks for the welcome Maya. Feeling okay. Good days and bad. We take them one day at a time at my house. Trying to get my true fatigue down to two days. The rest is lazy and some depression with the winter season not wanting to end here. Today the sun is shining and my daily companion Lola is outside so it's a good day.
Congrats on the reduced hospital visits and the reduced chemo plan!
-
So glad for you Maya with the reduced and reasonable schedule. Jill lookin good as always Welcome Milwmama.
-
Maya, so glad your doctor is working with you, great news.
Ugh, I went to workout today at my new gym and halfway through the Big D hit (thanks Perjeta!). I literally had to run from the class to make it in time. Ten minutes later when I hadn't returned they sent someone to check on me. So here I am, Big D hurling its way through my bowels, desperately trying to sound casual as I shout through the door, "Oh I'm great, thanks! Just a little chemo side-effect. Be right out!"
I now have a whole new reason to hate the gym!
-
I got my port repositioned today. It's more sore this go round than it was when I had it put it.I was so happy because I was the first surgery this am,but my surgeon forgot to do my orders so I was stuck in the recovery room for an extra 2 hours. And every one in there has to tell me they have never heard of a port flipping.9 more treatments to go. It sounds like a lot, but I'm almost at the halfway point.
-
MissBee--Perjeta is wonderful, isn't it? Sometimes I take Imodium before I go out to avoid a problem at the wrong time.
Buttaflydiva--wish you all the best for speedy recovery from that port surgery. Once was bad enough, I really feel for you having to do it twice.
-
Miss Bee - thanks for sharing - I had to laugh. Omg, I can't even imagine. Good for you for braving the gym in spite of the D!
-
Has anyone had or been exposed to strep during chemo? Both my kids (ages 4 and 7) were diagnosed with strep this morning. I'm so worried I'm going to get it! I have a message in to my MO to see if they will give me anything preventative. I just know it would knock me out if I got it.
-
JCS28 - good idea to see what your MO says. In the meantime, wash your hands even more than usual, and no kissing the kids or sharing glasses or food… I was worried my son had strep, but the swab was negative. I managed to avoid all but one of what felt like 4 continuous colds in our kids through this...
-
Well, today is my lucky day! My husband AND my kids have strep, but I am negative! I decided I should get a test just to make sure. And yes, I'm hands off the kids for a couple of days. I had a cold with both rounds 1 and 3. It really knocked me out. Fingers crossed I can make it through the end without another illness.
-
jcs28 Great news! Please be careful not to catch it. I had colds after cycles 3 and 4, the one after was so bad I ended up in the emergency room because of the fever, it was so depressing to feel so awful right when I should've started feeling better and the SEs were lifting.
-
it was so nice that my port has been fixed and was easy to access today. I did look at my 2nd echo today. my heart function is good, but after 4 AC treatments I have developed mild diastolic dysfunction, mild tricuspid regurgitation and mild biatrial enlargement. I know they aren't life threating, but I was hoping to come through without any damage to my heart. it just bothers me that I haven't even started radiation yet and supposedly that can cause damage too. i guess ill be following up with a cardiologist one treatments are over. how is everyone else's heart functions?
-
butterfly, I won't have an echo for a few months yet. That is disappointing to see changes like that. Hopefully it will get better?
-
Good Morning Ladies
Today is my last day of chemotherapy. Missbee123 thank you for creating this thread!! You have no idea how comforting it was to have a place to talk and complain and trade ideas about how to deal with crazy chemo. Especially for someone like me who is only 27 fighting this crazy cancer fight!
After this I'm set to begin endocrine therapy and most likely visit those threads too.
Best wishes to everyone! I hope everyone finishes there treatment without too many complications. I'll sneak in here to read updates often!
Love
