Metasticized breast cancer to skin?

hi friends,

My grade 3 IDC (stage 1) was on this side and I had a rough time with radiation. It was over in September 2013, found more cancer on remaining breast pathology, but the big question I have now is what the heck are these red lesions?

They've been there over 4 weeks, just getting worse. Radiation oncologist wants to refer me to skin cancer group, which is fine, but from what I've read it's more likely to be metasteces from the original IDC, though it coupl be basal cell cancer.

Anyone have your cancer spread to your skin? How are you? What was your treatment like?

    Glad you are getting it checked.  I had a lot of weird stuff show up on the entire radiated area for about a year after Rads was over.  I got warts which I never had.  I had some lesions that looked a lot like yours but went away.  I have sensitive skin and it just reacted for a long time.  My Onc said that it happens.  I was terrified of skin mets, but it turned out to be nothing.

    Have you seen a Dermatologist? Might be a good idea and he/she can do a punch biopsy to check out. If there is a cancer going on it will show if it is a met or a different type(s). There could be other possibilities that a skin specialist is best to deal with. Either way it will get you on the road to the best to deal with it.

    In the years since IBC DX, I have dealt with 3 Squamous Cell and 1 Basal Cell - the path. on all showed definitely not mets. (Dermatologist handled them.) The Basal on my arm was a red so my first thought was a met because I'm I'm IBC. Wasn't - was just Basal. Compared to your picture mine was tiny. I have been diligent about watching my skin as I am VERY light skinned (light green eyes too) and have abused my skin all my life as have always spent a lot of time 'outdoors' with sports. So basically, skin issues were to be expected for old me.

    Do find out what is going on and get TX.

    thank you Denise and Kicks! You have no idea how settling that is for my poor nerves. I plan to see primary doc tomorrow - the gateway to the dermatologist. I know I need a biopsy - the sooner the better!

    The prognosis for skin mets is poor and that's just a bummer I'll juggle until we know what it is for sure.

    Hi Rudekremlin, could it be radiation recall? Have read of it, never met anyone with it personally, but have read enough about it to know it really exists for some people. It is supposed to be rare, and usually occurs after some triggering agent is given, but the following link is for a guy who had it occur without any known cause.

    Rudekremlincat,

    I have skin mets and they don't look like your picture at all. One thing I notice is your necklace: have you tried not wearing it for a few days and using an eczema type cream and wearing light cotton shirts that don't chafe? Try it, I used to get terrible eczema rashes exactly like what you have and it was right where a necklace sat and only on one side. I do know that if you've had radiation your skin will forever be wonky. Wishing you the very best of luck and hoping it is nothing.

    I was wondering the same thing blue minion...is it a rash from a necklace. I can't wear jewelry many days in a row without getting something similar.

    Good luck it's something very benign.

    thank you! I will check it out. It seems like the radiation doc almost wanted to say so, but referred me to the skin cancer clinic instead. Appointment on April 21.

    thank you! I can definitely try removing the necklace. This doesn't behave like any other excema I have and hasn't responded to the excema Meds. I have a few other lesions now that look different from these, but also are not responding to excema treatment.
