What caused cancer to recur? Do I have bad gene?!
Three years after my first chemo, I thought I've been doing very well. Last week, I found out the cancer has returned. Frustrated and super disappointed. I can barely eat and sleep. I'm H2 positive and the growth rate is 70%. I've changed my diet ever since my first treatment, going organic and less meat. I can't think of what I could do differently to prevent this. Is bad gene the one to blame. If so, what can I do now to fight it? I'm waiting for port to put in and treatment to start. can I do anything at all? Here are my questions -
1. Starve the cancer? I'm 43. I heard that the younger you are, the faster the cancer grow and spread. Is there truth to this? If I eat less, will it help to slow/ starve the cancer down? If not, what should I eat at least I don't feed the devil.
2. Increase Alkaline or Ph level in the body? I also heard the cancer can't survive in alkaline environment. Has anyone actually done that? I asked my oncologist today and she was strongly discouraging that. She said my body can't tolerate. The alkaline will mess up how my body absorb protein.
3. Take any vitamin or herbs? Has anyone tried dandelion?
Many thanks.

so sorry you have to deal with it again. They don't know what causes our cancers, I would listen to what your mo has to say and maybe get a second opinion. Last time you did taxotere maybe another drug might be better. Wishing you the best.

Thank you so much for the kind advise, meow13. I just thought if I can fight back while I'm waiting for treatment to start. And yes, mo strongly discourage of using alkaline to boost up ph level.

Palmbreeze:
If you are HER2 positive, did you receive HER2-targeted therapy with trastuzumab (Herceptin) the first time in 2013? Also, being ER-positive, Have you been taking endocrine therapy (e.g., tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor)? In any case, hopefully you are located where you can get these additional treatments this time.
In your profile it says Stage IIb, but also "mets". Do you mean axillary node mets, or did you have distant metastasis?

Mine came back after 6 months. I have to say with all my heart sometimes it just comes back. You can go above and beyond and there might have been that one little cell hiding out. You did nothing wrong. You might have the BRCA mutation. If you do again you did nothing wrong. So many hugs.
