Recently Diagnosed
Hello Everyone,
A small lump felt in my right breast during my annual exam yielded me a diagnostic mammogram, in which they really focused on my left breast. I had a clump of fibrous tissue excised from that left area about 5 years ago, so I was thinking they were seeing another clump or scar tissue. I found out last week that the right lump is just a cyst, left side is IDC. I am 43 years old with no family history. I see the surgeon the day after tomorrow.
The pathology report says:
"Invasive ductal carcinoma, moderately differentiated (Nottingham score 6/9 - Tubule formation 2, nuclear pleomorphism 2, mitotic 2) Invasive component at least 6mm long.
Small focus of In Situ Ductal Carcinoma, solid pattern, nuclear grade 2 of 3......There is a small focus of in situ ductal carcinoma, adjacent to the invasive component."
It's estrogen/progesterone positive (90%/95% tumor staining). HER2 Negative.
This has been an overwhelming week. I fluctuate between being okay, or in denial, to being terrified and back again.
Thank you for reading and I'm grateful this community is here.

Sorry to find you here but you found the best community for bc on the web. BC is actually more common with no family history and happens at all ages from teens to the elderly from what I've seen here. You caught it early, it's small, IDC is very common and with it being ER+ Her2- it's one of the best possible outcomes. While it seems overwhelming you'll be amazed once you have a plan in place it becomes easier to deal. And once you start the plan, it's even easier to deal. Try not to fret. These days bc is very treatable. While you know some details on it it's after surgery where you'll know more. For now just focus on keeping yourself busy/distracted and calm. The hardest part is the beginning when you are starting to get details. Best wishes.

Hi! I'm on the same roller coaster having received my diagnosis today...high grade IDC, ER/PR positive, with one lymph node biopsy also positive. My HER2 is pending. I'm 45 and 13 weeks pregnant, so chemo and surgery are my only options at this time. Due to the pregnancy, everything is moving really fast. Once you meet with the surgeon and MO, you will feel better. It gives an odd sense of control.
Everyone here is wonderful...and so supportive. We have each other and there is strength in numbers.

I just received my diagnosed today. I am in shock. I didn't know what question to ask about the type and the harmon factor. My primary care will be setting me up for a breast MRI and a surgery appointment in the morning. I'm scared. I'm a widow and am 66 years old. I guess I just need some guidance as to what to ask and what to expect.

Thanks for the welcome. I have to tell you that I'm very anxious and upset. I'm a widow and live alone. I do have two grown daughters that are being supportive but they have their own lives to live. I'm SCARED to death. I've got my MRI scheduled for the 19th of this month after which the surgeon. Even though I've been told the mass is cancer, I didn't have enough sense to ask what kind, etc. I will be getting a copy of my reports next week to take to the MRI and for my records.
I've found a lot of useful information on this site already. I just try to block out all the "kinds" and treatment until I know what my plan of action will be.

I can certainly understand the mood swings you are experiencing as I am too. The bad thing is that you and I don't know how to deal with it.

One thing at a time, dixielilly. You'll feel much better once you have more information and a treatment plan. Please keep us all posted on what you find out and we'll be here for you to help you understand it all!
(((Big hugs))))

Thanks Mods. I need the help. I'm an impatient person and like everything lined up and in order. This waiting to get appointments set up is messing with my mind.
