    Didn't get a walk tonight as it is raining!! May try walking up and down the stairs to the basement and walk around my house!!! Tomorrow I'm going to try to go for a couple hour hike about an hour from my house. i wanted to go to the mountains but snow is predicted and don't want to risk it...was going to stay over night but will just hike closer by the house. Morning walk first. I made tentative plans with 2 different gf for this week, but haven't confirmed anything....wonder if it will work out....tomorrow spring break is half over!!! I love what I do, but having the week of is great.

    DD found out today that she got offered one camp position...she's waiting on the 2nd one before she confirms which one she takes. One is in NY and the other in CA. Both were phone interviews. She is conflicted on what one to take. The one in NY, one of the girls who will be one of her room mates next year is working at and she is not sure if that is a good time to meet her. One of her good friends from Denver is working at the LA camp. Either way she is gone for 6 + weeks....latter part of June to mid August. Once she finalizes her plans I can book my summer.... Fares are good! I want to go to Israel gain for a month of so. It will be a long time to leave Mom but I need to take care of myself.....DH will step in for me.

    I've been doing pretty good with NOT snacking at night or during the day, but not good enough....let's see if the day time snacking stays gone when I'm back to work next week!!!

    Went to the gym last night. Only had time for the treadmill but was able to get almost up to my pre surgery walking speed. I got up to 4.5. Although I was never a runner I did stick in some 6 - 6.5 sprints in the middle of my walk. So far I don't have the guts to try running:) All in all I walked 3 miles.

    Tonight, is hopefully a pool night.

    Hi All. Another beautiful day which made my walk/run delightful. Rain is coming tomorrow and Friday.

    Super busy day here. Walked with the ladies this morning. Here is a picture of the indoors group, a handful of the braver ones walked outside (37 degrees & a north wind was a little much for the rest of us!). After walking (and eating), I went to school & subbed for a teacher who had to go to a funeral, then went to Zumba & Yoga.

    75 mins exercise and running in pool this afternoon. Rest of day shopping, unpacking, assembling, yada, yada, yada.

    Gorgeous morning in Denver today....blue sky and sun and moderate temperatures.....about 1 pm, the weather changed to gray skies and rain and snow....Never got a second walk in...it got so cold and damp!! But I had a great lunch with on of my bff...we haven't gotten together in forever...we met for lunch and talked for over 2 hours!! It was so nice to spend time, that I didn't mind not getting a second walk in....I haven't gotten the walking in I thought I would get this week on spring break. Tomorrow night DH and I are going to Springsteen so need to do all my walking during the day. And as I write this I'm eating Hershey kisses!! So much for no snacking!!!

    Went to Cardio Sculpt this morning. No computer time for me today as I have a long 'to do' list & Book Club tonight. Happy Thursday!

    Can anyone suggest a start-up fitness/workout program for a sedentary 63 year old who is less than 3 months BMX?

    My husband & I just joined a wonderful fitness center and I am not sure what I can or should do besides walking, water-walking in pool and recumbent bike.

    I am seeing a LE therapist for cording issues i still have on both sides (right side is worse) who said no weights yet but not sure if I should any other machines.

    I did get some responses to my separate post but many directed me here but impossible to read 948 pages of posts!

    I am looking forward just to have a beautiful place to walk.

    I am catching up here...been busy getting ready for trip up north that was delayed. Karen, please don't tell me there is more snow! I like snow for skiing but I don't like to drive in it. Planning to drive up to Denver from Abq the weekend after next. We leave from Mexico this Sunday. Other than that, doing the daily 30-45 min. walk depending on the pace. Have been doing my theraband exercises as well but not too much with dumb bells lately.

    Claire - I am envious of your ski trip. Sounds like it was awesome!

    Cheryl - I am so sorry to hear of your friend losing her DH.

    GoodbyeGirl - I am with you! I don't know what an up dog is either.

    Patoo - that's crazy that the Disney run sold out so fast! What a bummer.

    When I decided to start getting in shape and begin with walking, I found the About Health Walk of Life 10 week program. It was great inspiration and information. I went from walking only 10 minutes to going 4-5 miles at a time. And from there to biking. But it all started with the short 10 minute walk...

    Katcar...we had some snow today, but I think that's the end of it for a while. By next Friday, its going to be near 77!! Crazy Denver weather. It is warming up for the next 10 days or so, but that's as far out as they forecast! Safe travels. What dates are you in Denver?

    We went to see Springsteen tonight. What an amazing concert. He played 3 1/2 hours non stop!!!

    Wow, lucky you to see Springsteen in concert! I am so envious.

    We should be in Denver on the 9th if we keep to our itinerary. I am glad it is warming up, but would enjoy some mild spring weather. It is already upper 80's here in the afternoons .

    I've been washing windows inside and out all morning. That is my exercise for today. I am taking a rest right now--it's hard work!

    Been MIA lately - DH's back went out last week (he has scoliosis so it comes with the turf) so I've had to take care of him plus do everything around the house as well. He's starting to get more mobile and actually was able to go to work today, so that's progress. But with all that, exercise has been non-existent for me this week.

    I just skimmed the pages I missed, but it sounds like everyone is busy!

    Some sad news - a former co-worker who had ovarian cancer died Tuesday. I talked to her husband last week so I knew it was coming, but it's still hard to hear. She was a true miracle - she was dx Stage IV from the get go, but made it 7 and a half years, many years longer than her doctors expected. She always had a team for the local annual Ovarian Cancer Awareness Run/Walk - I've been part of her team for years running the 5K.

    I am so very sorry about your friend, Mary. Relieved to hear that DH is on the mend.

    No exercise for me today. I subbed & afterwards went out with a friend who needed to vent. Tomorrow I will be back at it.

    Karen: What a concert!

    Welcome Balthus!: That walking path is beautifuI. It's always advisable to seek the advice of a physician before engaging in any exercise program (especially since you have been sedentary and recently had surgery) to make sure there is no other underlying health conditions such as high blood pressure or diabetes. Sorry about your cording issues and I hope your LE therapist can help resolve it.

    Hey. This is a huge thread!! I am 5.5 weeks post bilateral mastectomies, with tissue expanders in place.... When and what is a good idea for exercise? I usually swim... Don't quite have my full reach back yet and I think they really tweaked my shoulder during surgery...

    Thoughts? What did you all do and how was it? When did you start exercising again

    Hi everyone! It has been a busy week for my kids and exercise! I went to the gym twice, walked the trail twice, and did weights. My kids had a bases all game, golf practice, drill team try out meeting, and baseball practice. When they are busy I am equally busy driving them everywhere. It is what I love though! My DS will be getting his drivers permit this summer. I am not sure that I am ready for him to drive, but I will deal with it.

    Welcome Cathy! I didn't have an MX, so I am not able to give you suggestions on exercise. When I had my LX the Drs suggested waiting at least till everything healed. I started walking as soon as they cleared me to do so. Maybe someone that has had a MX will give you insight on their experience.

    Nats-So sorry for the loss of your friend.

    Ruth- You are keeping very busy! This time of year we are needing subs all the time, so many teachers are out.

    Katcar- I would consider washing windows a workout for sure.

    I will go on my walk this morning but will not be easy after a night of no sleep and a lot of grief. It's amazing how you can start to feel better about this disease, try to put it behind you, and then something happens to knock the wind out of you again. Someone I know in our small town is dying.... a month ago or so, she felt good. But her breast cancer came back with a vengeance. She had surgery, chemo and was on Tamoxifen. I am sad and very angry. We have lost several good women in this town. I wonder if anyone else on the boards lives in a small community where so many are affected by breast cancer? I wouldn't even know where to post that question. Sorry if it is inappropriate to post it here, but I thought you might be able to lead me to the correct place. Carpe diem.

    Katcar, I know so many ladies in my town who have dealt breast cancer. I could make a long, long list. (I need to call a lady this weekend and see how she is doing because she just started chemo.) One of my friends was diagnosed about 6 months before me; same statistics, same treatments etc., hers came back two years later, and she died. So I know how freaked out, sad, mad and everything you are feeling right now. Sending hugs and encouragement. In my Wednesday walking group, whose pictures I always post, four of us have had BC, and we are all doing good and appreciating every day.....go with that.

    Welcome Cathy, I had a lumpectomy too so can't answer that part. But I did start walking right away and also doing lower body workouts (which I had never done much of before, so as a good side effect, I lost a pants size!).

    Speaking of which, I am going downstairs and doing an hour of spot toning with Denise Austin before starting the day.

    Annie, yes I will be busy subbing now until the end of the school year. I am going in two afternoons next week for track coaches. I love that because I can exercise in the morning and teach in the afternoon. Perfect!

    thanks Ruthbru.... Lower body workouts I'm sure will be a great way to start. I think I asked my PS office and the gal at the desk said the doc usually says 6 weeks I could start. .. I'm getting close but I'm sure walking would be an ideal low impct start!! Thanks for the motivation girls... And my heart goes out to you struggling with the grief.... It does come and go at the weirdest times and sneaks in at the worst time. My cancer inspired a friend to get her mammo done(she is 45 and it's her first one,and her mom had BC at age 43 😬) she is worried, had it, abnormality was seen , dxtic and US done, now waits for biopsy next week. I am trying to keep her positive and remind her that everything is doable. Hugs to all

    hi all and welcome Balthus and Cathy. I started a walking program with a slow shuffle to the mailbox and back to the couch. Have now logged thousands of miles (see sig line, that's where I keep track). I also do some yoga but have been slacking off on that and should get back to it. I wear an inexpensive pedometer to keep track of steps and miles. Just start slowly and as cleared by your doc(s).     Logged at least 10,000 steps each day last week which was my goal.

    Well, did a much harder and longer hike than usual--so much so, that my bf was dizzy afterwards and exhausted. I felt fine. Good even. I just needed to let off some steam in a positive way. The way I have been feeling was so eloquently put by another "survivor" here: I feel like I am screaming in the face of the ocean...impotent."

    Ruthbru: Your words helped me immensely. Sometimes, I feel like we are being "picked on" here. So, it helps to hear from other women in other areas, although I hate to hear how prevalent the disease is. It is hard to get a perspective from the boards since only a subset of women post. I am so sorry about your friend who was diagnosed so close to you and then succumbed. I lost my best friend (but she did not treat it) a year before I was diagnosed. I have a Stage IV friend here who is stable and doing great although not NED, we have lost a couple of women in the community, and I personally know 10 women here with it and know of many others. All we can do is appreciate each day given to us. I look forward to seeing more photos of you with your walking group. It helps to know you are all doing well.

    Katcar this situation is definitely hard. I work in a department of thirty women and 3 of us have had BC, all diagnosed at 50 or less, plus two of the men's wives. I know 1of 8 will get BC, but too many in our age group for the statistics. In fact about four months after I returned to work, the one co worker lost his wife. All we can do is give each other support, try to be healthy and carry on.

    Cathy welcome to our exercise world. Walking is a great way to start. When the BS says its OK , start working on gentle range of motion for your upper body. it seems like you will need to get your range back a bit to swim.

    It's cold and windy here. We even had snow this morning even though the daffodils bloomed this week. So I did some mall walking and shopped till I dropped.

    Hi all and welcome to newbies! Not sure when I posted last but have been trying to get something in each day. Thursday did bone builders class. Friday did 3-mile, 45 min, Leslie Sansone Waliking class. Today bowled 3 games (I don't consider that much exercise since you sit so much) but followed that with lifting/pushing/unpacking/rearranging/etc. boxes and bins in the garage. My poor car has informed me she's tired of being a visitor only in the driveway and wants to take up residence, so the garage almost has enough room for her to move in.

    Hi All. I only have a quick moment bc it's halftime during the Carolina vs Syracuse game of the Final Four and Carolina is winning. Keeping my fingers crossed that they win.

    I pushed mowed for 2 hours today followed my 1 hour or more of pulling weeds out of one of our 4x8 garden boxes. Ugh. Lots of weeds but getting it ready for planting soon.

    Cathy, I had double BMX and went back to the pool at 6-7 weeks post surgery. The first couple times in the pool i just did some exercises in the pool such as pulling my arms apart or towards or trying to do the breaststroke motion (without swimming, just to build my muscle up to the point i could swim. The TE does get in the way a bit so i had a pretty wide stoke. but i stayed up and did not fall to the bottom:) I swam as often as possible throughout chemo and with the TE's. Now i have my implants and found it a bit more challenging to get back but i did the same thing and i am back up to 30 laps and feeling pretty good. Not as quick as i used to be but doing it and getting stronger. Follow your doctors instructions on what you can and can't do (my PS won't let me do any weights but lets me do the swimming, treadmill, ellipticle

    TwoHobbies - Thanks for your words and support--this stupid disease does seem to be hitting the 50 and younger group pretty hard.

    No exercise for me for a few days--we'll be on the road and not connected much to the internet. I wish all of you good health and keep moving!

    Yesterday we had sporadic snow showers. Today it is 70. Tomorrow's forecast, high of 36. Ah, Springtime in Chicago! Needless to say, I walked 24 minutes and went for 40 minute bike ride today.
