second opinion after core needle biopsy (Phyllodes tumour)?

Hi,

I'm a bit confused by the wordings on my pathology report. It states "appearances are most suggestive of phyllodes tumor" ... "excision advised". There seems to be some uncertainty with the diagnosis (or is this the normal way of stating the results?).

I was referred to a breast surgeon who explained what the surgery would involve. I want to get a second opinion. Should it be from an oncologist or a pathologist? Both my GP and the breast care nurses feel a second opinion on a benign tumour is unnecessary. But the rarity of this tumour and the inconclusive words of the pathology report don't make me any more comfortable, either.

Please advise.

hi! I was just wondering what you did. Did you get a second opinion or just get the lumpectomy.

I had my lumpectomy yesterday. My biopsy stated phyllodes as well and was 4cm at the time. Yesterday it came out at 12cm. And I am eagerly waiting to see the path reports for that.

    Thanks-Amanda
