Recent Nipple Discharge After Double Mastectomy
Hello everyone. Last year I was diagnosed with stage 0 DCIS so had a double mastectomy with reconstruction. Several months after I got pregnant once again. Our second son was born just two weeks ago! About a few months ago I noticed clear and white discharge from my nipples but did not call my PS until a few days ago. She called me back saying she was surprised that was happening since she inverted the nipples so there should not be discharge coming from them. I am not sure if this was brought on by pregnancy or just because but wanted to see if this happened to anyone else. With my PS being stumped wanted to reach out to all of you!
Thanks!

I had a bilateral mastectomy and reconstruction two years ago. One year ago I started have some small white discharge from my nipples, I haven't gone to the doctor about it yet I figured it would go away on its own. Since then the discharge has started coming out of both nipples and has increased in the amount of discharge. However unlike you I have not had any children yet so I don't think pregnancy triggered yours but I'm no doctor.
It hasn't been going away so I've decided to go see the doctor now about it and I'll let you know what happens.

StephieL this topic hasn't been active in some while now, in case you hadn't noticed. You may consider starting a new topic on this issue. We are interested in hearing what your doctor suggests. Are you seeing your plastic surgeon, or oncologist?

Hello there. Just curious to know what the issue was with your nipple, can you share just for our knowledge? Thank you!

I was just wondering what this ended up being. I had a nipple sparing/sharing double mastectomy in 2016. I had a baby 4 months ago and just noticed that I am having a small amount of white discharge coming from my left nipple that was made from part of the right nipple. I only have thile discharge if I squeeslze my nipple. My cancer was on the left side originally. Hoping its nothing but it doesn't seem normal to me...

hello ladies, I just realized there was a response to this, sorry for the delay.
My doctor referred with other doctors and there were only a few reported cases. Said it could be some wax type substance left over from the bilateral or since I still had my nipples it could be some leftover milk from my ducts that the hormones produced. Never got a clear answer but after an ultrasound found no out everything was good.
Did you hear anything relating to your situation

I have the same question and am seeing a surgeon to discuss this issue. I had my son a few weeks ago and am noticing a discharge every day. I did not have this with my first child in 2015 (surgery was in 2010).
In case anyone is wondering, here is a recent research article from Massachusetts General Hospital that examined nipple discharge in women post mastectomy and with and without subsequent pregnancies. the title can be searched with Google "
Nipple Discharge after Nipple Sparing Mastectomy With and Without Associated Pregnancy"
