Called in after very first mammogram
Hello all. I am a just turned 40 yr old mom and had my first mammogram a week or so ago. I went in just as a routine first timer. I got a call back a couple of days ago to go back in after finding calcifications in my left breast. My appt was this morning and after the results of the mammogram, the doctor wants me to do a biopsy next week. The healthcare team there were kind and reassuring but I cannot help to feel very nervous. I am pretty shocked since this was just my first time and I thought it would be like crossing off from my To Do list, just like a physical. Doc said that the microcalcifications are most likely benign most of the time so I will try not to worry. Thank you for reading.

So sorry you find yourself here. After a first mammogram is actually a really common time to get a callback, as they have no old films to compare to and to check for stability. I know you are nervous, but they are telling you the truth that most biopsies (80% or more of Birads 4 imaging) are benign.

Bluetrees,
Best wishes. I'll be thinking of you next week. I'm glad that you are having it checked out and that your doctors are thorough, kind, and reassuring

I feel what you are going through. My mammo was done March 11 and I was called back. I am scheduled for a biopsy on the 30th. I cannot think of anything else. I can't wait until it is done so I can either move on to plan b or forget about it for 6 months.

Hopefully this will turn out to be nothing much. I have very dense breasts, so I've been called back in a lot, maybe 40% of the time, usually for ultrasounds or extra pictures. Twice I had micro-calcifications on the left and needed biopsies. They were a piece of cake, really. No problems with them at all. Never found a thing.
Imagine my surprise when out of the blue my last mammogram showed something in the RIGHT breast and it turned out to be a 1.8cm invasive cancer. Knocked me off my butt for a little bit, but then my doctors and I got a plan in place and I felt a lot better.
Regardless of how this plays out, just know that you're in a good place at BCO. We may not all go down the same road, but we all understand what it means physically and emotionally to have breast cancer.

Thank you everyone. It went smoothly and according to plan yet I really had no idea how intense the whole process was going to be. Happy that part is over. I'm still sore and trying to take it easy but with four little ones, it's been a bit tough to sit and lay on on the sofa without getting up every few min.
I'm hoping I get a call from the Doctor today. He said it's possible to have the results today but it may be until Mon. Been using a relaxation app for deep breathing when I start to get too anxious.

Doc just called and it's benign! I'm so relieved. Thank you all for the support. He did give me a diagnosis which I can't remember the name (will look at my results when they come in) but said that I just need to follow up every year with a mammogram. Thank you again
