Greetings, my surgery is scheduled for March 30. Mastectomy with TE. I'm already jumping out of my skin with nerves and anxiety. Any helpful hints to help me calm down a little?

It's so hard and so scary! I actually asked my doc for a prescription for Ativan to calm me down. It worked a bit. Also, keeping busy with other things helps. Just know that it does get better. Really. Waiting and not knowing exactly what is coming at you is the worst. And, find a mantra. Mine is, among others, "cancer sucks, F#$#$&* cancer!!" :) And finally, I read through these posts and found a little comfort in knowing that I'm not alone. Our BCO sisters here rock. Good luck to you and check out the March Surgery forum here. There's lots of us!

    Hi, Simple13 -

So sorry you need to be here, but you have found a fabulous group of sisters who will walk this path with you!

Iammags has some great ideas... if you need it, ask your doc for a prescription.

Personally I wanted to know EVERYTHING that would happen before, during, and after my surgery. I did lots of reading on the forum to hear others' stories.

Other ladies would just rather not focus on what's happening. I strongly urge you to find something you love to do, and do it! Keep your mind and your body busy! March 30th will be here before you know it.

For me, the anticipation was worse than the reality. I over-planned, where I really didn't need to. I loved my medical team, the nurses kept me comfortable with pain meds, and I had my little nest set up for when I got home.

Wishing you the best.... be sure to come back and post when you can!
