recurrance after only 18 months of original diagnosis
Im at it again! I was diagnosed in september of 2014 with IDC stage II because of size of tumor. I did not have lymph node involvement. I had a lumpectomy and started chemotherapy. I did 4 rounds of AC 12 rounds of TAXOL and 17 rounds of Herceptin. I was scheduled for my last herceptin treatment next week. I also completed 7 weeks of radiation. My oncologist told me two weeks ago that we overkilled this cancer and he is certain i will never get it again. He said they caught the disease early and i was a lucky one. I then told him my breast had become tender and i had shooting pains. It was also turning red on one side. He thought it was a side effect of radiation. I agreed. That night i couldnt sleep and i decided to travel and get a second opinion and asked for a biopsy. I have now been diagnosed with IBC and will start the PET scans and MRI's and all the other lovely test tomorrow.
I havent even finished treatment for the first cancer yet. If you have a concern keep pushing until you get an answer. if i had brushed this off who knows how much longer it would have taken to get a diagnosis.

I have nothing to contribute, just really feel for you! Icannot imagine being diagnosed again so soon. Good for you for pushing to get the right diagnosis though. Sounds like you're handling it amazingly well.

Dear Rita, we're so sorry that you find yourself in this situation... If you want to meet others who are just facing the diagnosis of a recurrence you can also post or read through the forum called Just Diagnosed With a Recurrence or Metastasis.
Thinking of you,

Rita, I'm so sorry--I wish I had better words of comfort and reassurance but I know you're sad and scared. What a terribly SUCKY thing to happen. I'm just so glad you advocated for yourself and insisted on having it checked. Blessings and gentle hugs.

thanks for your words of comfort. I am waiting to meet with the doctor on my next plan of action. MRI show large mass in breast. I will feel much better once I have a game plan.

Rita,
I'm sorry you are going through this all over again. Hoping your new treatment works well to get you stable again.

Rita, what a crap shoot. So very sorry that this has happened. You are one smart lady to move on for a second opinion. Big hugs.

Rita, what has been happening? We would love to have an update on you, hoping it's all good but here for you one way or another.
