As a new member, I should have joined this long ago! I am 38 years old and have had numerous issues with my breasts for past 6 years. I started doing MRI due to dense breast tissue and family history. Last September they found a suspicious area on my right breast. Ultrasound showed nothing of concern and to repeat MRI in 6 months. Here we are and the MRI shows no change in size of right area but now my left has an irregular enhanced mass which had rapid uptake with washout. So scared and nervous. Anyone with a similair situation? Thanks so much

Hi, those pesky MRIs, right? They pick up everything, which is good, and not good. I have dense breasts too and finally got an MRI (at my request) which showed multiple areas of enhanced uptake etc etc. Two areas (which were suspicious from mammo) proved to be IDC. The other areas they believe are normal variations and nothing to worry about. In my case it was difficult to do a biopsy from ultrasound, and we went the long way round with mammos correlated to the MRI--took 3 hours, but worth it to get answers. I think the reading of the MRIs is more art than science, and you really really need a breast specialist to read them. I wouldn't worry until you know something for sure (biopsy). Good luck.

I had three masses show up on MRI. Two were considered to be malignant (and were). The third was iffy so it was left alone until after my surgery. When that one was biopsied, it was benign. Hope yours is!

I had 5 areas of suspicion show up on breast MRI. Only one proved to be malignant. However MRI is many times the only tool that picks up malignancy when your breasts are dense. So even though there are false positives if you have dense breasts IMO they are a must!

I agree 100% dtad. The sooner the better with dense breasts (might have saved me positive nodes). Better counseling to help people deal with false positives would help.
