Possible local recurrence
Hello, I just joined this forum so please bear with me. I diagnosed with Stage 1 IDC 5 years ago, at the age of 49, and I had a lumpectomy with radiation. ER and PR +, so took Tamoxifen and now Aromasin. On Monday I went for my routine mammo and went through the whole drill again--additional picture, US, and then biopsy recommendation for a new suspicious area in the same breast. Bi-Rads 4, complex cystic area right below the surgical bed from my lumpectomy. Had the biopsy today and probably won't know the results till after the weekend. From what I can tell from mammo/us report, there are both good signs and bad. Good are that it was mostly clear fluid, but bad are irregular shape, spiculation and lobulated borders, and of course, location. Any had an experience like this?

Hi I'll keep fingers and toes crossed for you. Mine is more aggressive than I was told I guess. There are many with the same dx doing well and some are not. It is a baffling dx to say the least.
Keep strong! 2009 for me Lumpectomy Rads and Arimadex at first.

Thank you for all the support! I feel very welcome in this new community (for me) and appreciate it. I called at the end of the day today and my results are not yet in, so I expect an answer on Monday. The NP navigator at the breast program told me she had a good feeling about this, since the area "collapsed like a cyst" when they did the biopsy, which made me feel better, but then I remembered that the radiologist described it as a complex cystic formation, so we already knew it was a cyst--the problem is the solid component and the spiculation, etc. So I don't know what to think or expect, and the waiting is so very difficult. Trying not to react to people's efforts to be helpful ("I had a biopsy and it was nothing"--I did too the first time, but not the second, so who knows about the third?) Thank you, everyone.

luvmytwins - so sorry you find yourself here, but glad that you've found us! I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago - large, hard lump in the same tumor bed as my previous cancer. I was only two years out and my MO seemed certain it was a recurrence. My BS thought it was a cyst and tried to stab it with a need a couple of times, but couldn't get any fluid out. He decided we needed to go straight to surgical biopsy. Turns out it was a complex cyst under come scar tissue. My cyst had a solid component to it, too, so my BS sent the fluid and tissue off to pathology and all turned out well. I hope you find that is the case for you, too.

I finally got the call this morning, and it was BENIGN!!!! Said the complex cyst was caused by fat necrosis. Thank you all for your kind support!

This is a great community and I would also like to offer the same words of hope you have offered me. Much appreciated!!!
