i have been on Herceptin since May of 2016- i was told that it was virtually side effect free but was taken off of this last month because it appears to be decreasing heart function- is this common?

It can be. decreasing heart function is probably the most notable se. Many woman go off for a bit, regain heart function and then return, others stay off. I have been on for 2.5 years my onc does an echo every 3-6 months to check status

I am sure others who have had the experience of decrease in function will post with more info.

But know you are not alone.

I'm also another one that had a slow decrease. I think my break ended up being about five weeks. My MO referred me to a cardiologist when my Muga showed my function had dropped down to 52. He put me on a couple heart medications to protect my heart while I finished. The Echo from December 2015 showed my function was back up to 65.

My ECHO dropped dramatically and I had to quit after 3 months of Herceptin. Mine dropped from 65 to 29 and has remained that way for 3 years. The good news is, I am now 4 years out and still here and my heart, although I take meds, is stable and asymptomatic. I see my cardiologist only once a year now.

My advice if it drops or continues to drop, send you to a cardiologist who is familiar with cancer drugs!
